Well Grant has now been on prevacid solutabs for 1 week or so and since then he has really gone down hill. He went from taking 5 ozs thickened formula to 1-2ozs. He screams now while eating and the dr. is telling us that if he doesn’t eat she will have to admitt him to the hospital. Could the prevacid be making things worse? He hasa milk issue is there any dairy in the solutabs?
January 26, 2009 at 4:04 pm #60577AnonymousInactiveneither of my boys did well on the solutabs, but that is a rarity here. not sure if it was the lactose, the aspertime or the flavoring, but for whatever reason neither one could handle them…..
So to answer your question, def. possible, but most babies do fine on them….January 26, 2009 at 6:19 pm #60583hellbenntKeymasteris he on any other meds? the solutabs can take up to 2 weeks to ‘kick’ in so if he’s not taking anything else (like zantac, axid, pepcid or tagament), then it’s like he’s not on any relfux meds at all…the above meds (the ones listed in the parentheses) can be given 4 hrs seperate frpm the solutabs
also: solutabs need to be given on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later
January 26, 2009 at 9:04 pm #60588AnonymousInactiveno he’s not on anything else. Can I give mylanta? I’m ready to take him to the ER cuz he’s only taking 1oz than screaming. BUt the thought of the dr.s sticking him scares the crap out of me- Hopefully we will be able to stickit out till our upper GI on thrusday.
January 27, 2009 at 10:25 am #60596AnonymousInactiveyes! give mylanta… 1ml .. up to 5 times a day. give it right before bottle it should help.
January 28, 2009 at 1:24 pm #60640AnonymousInactiveI had a mom on my twins board say that the solutabs have a some kind of milk protein in them. . .but that the prevacid liquid does not have that milk protein, so you might try to have the doctor call in the liquid version and try that. . .
January 28, 2009 at 3:02 pm #60646AnonymousInactiveLike others have said it can take a good 2 weeks for the solutabs to kick in. In the meantime, 1mL of cherry supreme mylanta before a feed(throughout the day up to 5mL) should help. Also, just wanted to add…Solutabs contain the milk SUGAR(lactose) NOT milk PROTEIN. So, if your LO isn’t lactose intolerant then you should be fine. Also, SOME babies can’t handle the aspartame in them…BUT…I would definitely NOT switch to the compounded version(stability is a real issue). Good Luck!
January 28, 2009 at 3:13 pm #60647AnonymousInactiveSorry. . .I did NOT mean to provide WRONG information. . .just trying to relay information that I heard. . . The mom that provided the information switched her child to the liquid (because her son also had problems with milk, as well as lactose) and finally found some relief when she switched. Good Luck!
January 28, 2009 at 3:57 pm #60649AnonymousInactivewe are now also on zantac 1.8ml bid so hopefully thiswill help. tomorrow is our upper GI so we will see what that shows.

The same reason- solutabs have lactose (monohydrate) and she is allergic to the milk protein. Lactose is milk sugar. However my ped GI said to use capsules instead to be sure. Honestly I think the solutabs are fine but I don’t like the fact that it has aspartame.
