Hello. My ds Sebastian is now 7 months old and has been on neocate for the past 2 months. On neocate, he has been able to eat and sleep again. It was wonderful. And then we started giving him solids. We tried rice, apple, banana, and pear. Right away he started having the night wakings all night long again. During the day though, he would have no problem eating (pain) when drinking milk from his bottle so I continued the trial for a month. Now I have abandoned the solids to give us a break for the past 2 days, and he’s back to sleeping normally and waking only for his pacifier or early hour feeding. What do you think I should do? How long should I wait until I try solids again. I’m so tired! I’m scared too! He actually enjoyed eating his cereal and fruit. Do I suck it up and just continue or would that ultimately leave us where we started-refusing to eat while awake. So sad that it’s not working out for him 🙁 Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.
go slow- start in the morning (further away from night wakings)-
try mashed ripe avocado w/ neocate
give it four days
if it doesn’t work, back off a few days
try baked or steamed sweet potato, mashed w/ neocate – same thing-
you could try barley or oatmeal- make sure there are no added ingredients!! (gerber brand has added things- try beechnut or earth’s best?)- you do not have to have a cereal, though
I agree, go slow! And it’s perfectly okay to wait a little longer to start solids. I started around 6 months, and my LO reacted to cereals and, believe it or not, pears. So obviously I stopped giving those. Around 9 months I tried rice cereal again and he was fine. Neocate also makes a hypoallergenic cereal called Nutra, maybe you could try that?
Good luck!! 🙂
