Okay a few weeks ago I thought I had my son’s reflux/gas figured out. I stopped thickening & I started giving him his Prevacid three times a day instead of two like prescribed. For a week he was great & I noticed that he wasn’t passing gas anymore(not like before anyway).
Then a few days ago I went to see my second GI specialist & I was honest about the extra prevacid dose & he told me not to do that. That Prevacid can NEVER be given 3X a day. So I listened to him mostly because he was the second specialist that wanted to decrease sons dose to once a day but I convinced them not to. So I thought maybe they were right. He did increase his zantac however.
Ever since that day (3 days ago) My baby has been miserable & the gas has come back! I’m confused though why is he having gas again? I thought it was either from Prevacid or rice cereal. Could it be the zabtac or could a flare up cause it from giving less Prevacid? Today I started dosing him 3X again but he is still the same. Does it take time to get better? Please help! I should have never changed anything.

give whatever you think is right. you can always back down. I’d still dose 3 times a day but you can make each dose less &, if it doesn’t work, go back up. it’s a lot of trial & error. what FORM of prevacid?March 31, 2012 at 7:04 pm #70158AnonymousInactivesolutabs & yes I am giving 4 hrs apart but sometimes esp with 3x a day prevacid he misses out on a zantac dose which is fine with me. I think he would do fine wo it. H e seems to be feeling better today but still has the gas maybe just not as painful?
last night he started getting sick (runny nose, coughing). first time this ever happened & it scares me cuz of the fact that they can respirate food or have increased chance of pneumonia because meds too. This is my understanding anyway.

they need the meds spaced out (3 doses) because their metabolisms are fast & they zip through the dose- it’s not like adults who can take one pill in the morning and have it last all day…solutabs need to be given on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes laterApril 2, 2012 at 10:27 pm #70175AnonymousInactiveHe is on Alimentum. My pedi gave me a sample of Elecare (same as Neocate I think) and it made my baby throw up. He reacted very strange to it. At first I did it straight all Elecare but because of the way he was acting & things I read I tried again but mixed it with Alimentum more & more slowly. That’s actually when he threw up from it & I mean projectile vomit. My baby is a silent refluxer mostly so I really wasn’t used to that. Since then I just gave up on it.
I think I’m going to try less Zantac because that’s what seems to be doing it.
