Can anyone help ensite me on sleeping tips i posted this is the sleeping section but never got a response… My lil one has roseola and while hes been sick he will not go down for his naps and bedtime like he normally does… usually he goes down great no problems no crying nothing.. lately since hes been sick he arches his back and crys trowing himself around he wont go to sleep until i stand up with him in front of the fan so it blows on his face….. any ideals on why he may do this? Also im so afraid he will get into a routine and want me to hold him in front of the fan all the time…. Im just dont want him to get into a habit of being held ya know what i mean cuz its gonna make it difficult for babysitter ect or if im really busy that day and dont have time to do it…. any ideals on why he does it?
ALSO HOW MANY OF YOU FOLKS HAVE TO HOLD/ROCK YOUR LO TO SLEEP?
AND WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THAT?September 23, 2008 at 2:19 pm #57021AnonymousInactiveWell I am not a good person to respond as I rocked Cooper to sleep until he was 16 months old. Yep thats right 16 months. He now gladly goes to sleep by himself. Probably could have done it earlier, but I didn’t try. Part of it was me liking the cuddle time, but more it was about him getting some sleep and that was the only way he would go to sleep for a long time, then it became a habit. But as he got older it was not as comfortable b/c he was so big and then he just started playing instead of trying to go to sleep and so one night I just put him down and he went to sleep on his own… it took about 2hrs, but he did with no crying. So I did what worked until it didn’t and that is what I always recommend. Esp when you aren’t sure if they are in pain or not. We let him go to sleep on his own after he had been off meds for 2 months and I knew he wasn’t in any pain.
September 23, 2008 at 3:26 pm #57029AnonymousInactiveWell, if he is still sick or getting over roseola that is probably why he is fussy and not napping/sleeping or being cooperative with you. Illness can really flare up reflux too! Did you take him off the PPI drug and put him back on zantac? I can’t remember. Your siggy still says prevacid. I am just trying to remember. It sounds like Chance is in pain. You might try putting him back on Prevacid and like others have mentioned give it a good few weeks this time.
Babies are just so unpredictable with sleep (even non-refluxers) so it’s tough to tell. Babies LOVE to be rocked too, even non-refluxers, so I woudln’t think of that as a problem per-se. LOL. I rocked both of my babies until my glider/rocker nearly fell apart.September 23, 2008 at 6:04 pm #57035hellbenntKeymasterI STILL rock my boys. they are 2 & 5 yrs old.
Do they NEED me to? no. they are perfectly fine when I am not around.Do they fall asleep while being rocked?no. it is now ‘just’ part of our bedtime ritual…September 23, 2008 at 9:31 pm #57040AnonymousInactivethanks bunches for your responses… Yeah it is probably from the roseola… He seemed to be a little better this evening… Im still having issues with getting him to drink his bottles. he will eat babyfood but no formula, ive tried juice and pedialite… i cant get him to drink nothing.. But i do which it sounds mean but i do force feed him 6 ounces of pedialite per day with a medicine syringe, per docs orders… I took him off reglan per me wanting to cuz of the side effects. I called the doc the doc told me to up his dose of zantac 15mg to 2 mls 3 times a day. My doc kinda sounds a little bothered when i call him so im switching docs it seems as if he tells me what i want to hear instead of helping me…. he wont give him nexium or anything other than zantac or prevacid or reglan because he says them are the top three meds and if they dont work he dont know what to tell me… And in my eyes thats not good enough for me or my boy. if ya knwo what i mean? So whats your suggestions ladies? Zantac three times a day or switch him back to prevacid soluble tabs 1 time a day 2 tablets per his last script.. I just never gave the prevacid a full week. ppl say to try it for two weeks what sould i do prevacid or zantac? idk my doc says do what you want, i said whats better for him and he says what ever you want to give him and to me thats lame… he should instruct me what to do not what i think……. think is the key word…. im not a licesened md he is….. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr these darn docs. 🙁
September 24, 2008 at 8:11 am #57052AnonymousInactiveIMO, I’d go back to Prevacid!! He might not be drinking from a bottle b/c he is developing an aversion to it b/c he’s in pain. Zantac doesn’t give good acid control for acid refluxers (this is just my opinion) I am sure others will chime in! I’d call the doc up and if he’s willing to give back the prevacid, or if you still have some, I’d start it back up, make sure you are dosing it correctly and give it a few weeks but KEEP GIVING THE ZANTAC TOO! Just space it 4 hrs from the prevacid. I’d give the prevacid in at least 2 doses (AM and PM) and maybe zantac at Noon and Midnight if you need to. jilly782008-09-24 08:12:02
September 24, 2008 at 8:23 am #57054AnonymousInactiveI agree w/Jill! I’d go back to the prevacid…Unless, you thought he was having a reaction to them. I can’t remember why you stopped, if you even said. So, if he was handling them fine, then I’d cont. w/them. Don’t forget to give on an empty stomach follwed by a meal 30-60min later. Also, if you were having issues getting your LO to take the tab…I, just recently, have been putting the tab in my DDs cheek(switching sides each time) and giving her no more than an oz of plain water in her bottle to wash it down. It’s the ONLY way I’ve been able to get her to take the entire thing w/o spitting some out. HTH! Hope your little guy gets feeling better soon!
