sick baby **VENT**

Nicholas is sick. AHHHHH!! I came down with a head cold the other day. I have been very dilligent (I usually am anyways) about handwashing, etc. But, now my ds has it. He is totally stuffed up and has a mild fever. He WON’T eat, b/c he can’t breathe. We always run the humidifier, b/c he is stuffy from the reflux anyway. I suck him out really good with saline and the aspirator, but like 5 minutes later, he is completely congested again. And I HATE sucking him out, b/c it seems to make his reflux 10x worse, but what do you do? Either make it so he can breathe (somewhat) or make his reflux worse. HELP!! NO SLEEP!!

Hope he feels better soon… and there’s no avoiding the germs. Hope it doesn’t last long. BTW, I found that vicks babyrub helped a bit.

suctioning can be a vicious cycle. the more you suction, the more you can irritate their little noses, and the more their noses are irritated the more mucous is produced. I might try saline drops without the suctioning, and then just let his body do the rest…..

Thank u. Headed out to get the Vick’s. He is actually sleeping now, just not last night when I wanted to sleep. Of course.

Yes, someone on here (forget who) mentioned rubbing the Vick’s babyrub on their feet and putting socks on. This worked pretty good for Landen when he had strep and a cough last week! Otherwise, I agree just use lots of saline (no nose sucking) and humidifier. Hope it passes soon. HUGS!

Owen was ALWAYS stuffy and has a rattle in his chest early on with reflux so it was hard to tell when he really had a cold, but when he did get a bad cold, it was 10 times worse so I sympathise!!! I would second the vote for saline drops and just let them be. He hated it at first, but I still do it now and he really doesn’t throw too much of a fit. It seems to help sleep. Also I constantly had a humidifier on him for the first year it seem I hardly put it away.

Thanks everyone. Nicholas sems to feel better today, and his fever is gone. The Baby Rub on the feet tricked worked like a charm! Thanks Jill. It broke up a lot of the stuffiness and he slept like a log (and smelled good). I think I’ll just do what ya’ll suggested and use saline drops by themselves during the day, and suction him out really good before bed so he can breathe well. Also, tummy time seems to be helping b/c it forces a lot of the mucous come out his nose on it’s own.
