Hello! I have a 2 and a half year old daughter who we just weaned from the pacifier maybe 3 weeks ago? After a few days of tears, she is now sleeping fine (emotionally, at least) without it. However, now she seems to have a cough just when she’s sleeping. Sometimes it wakes her up enough to where she cries and I have to get her a drink of water, sometimes it doesn’t. She has been on Prevacid since 4 months old, and we are currently in the process of finding out whether she needs more prevacid or not (had a milkscan test done last week, waiting for the call back from the dr.)
In the meantime, I am feeling anxious that perhaps this cough is because she isn’t sucking on the pacifier anymore! She also hasn’t been herself lately, which did kind of start before we got rid of the paci, but has gotten much worse since. Asking for Tums a lot, not eating well, doing that “hairball” cough during the day, getting hiccups a lot again.
I would give her back the pacifier in a heartbeat (we can borrow them back from the “babies” we “gave” them to, right???), but the whole reason we weaned was because she has a horrendous overbite and is starting to talk with a slight lisp, the kind you need speech therapy to overcome since it’s not developmental.
Anyone ever have reflux problems with weaning from the pacifier? What’s more important, her night time comfort or long term speech development???
Thanks for any insight you may have!
Rachel
