should I do a nuclear scan?

I think that’s the right word is a scintiscan? It’s the test where they swallow the radioactive material and have an hour long scan. Anyway, I’m torn as to whether I think this test (reccmd by ped) is necessary or not and I do NOT want to do something like that if there isn’t a good solid reason. It’s scheduled along w/ a barium swallow. DD is already on Prev and on Alim and is 10 mos, so I’m trying to think why we would do the scan if we already know she has reflux. It’s the *why* she still has reflux symptoms even while on a PPI that has her dr concerned.
He wants us to have the scan before we see the ped GI, but I just don’t feel right about it. Maybe I should demand that we wait to scan until after I talk w/ the GI????

Did you get the scan done?

To answer your question as best as I can…I say do it. I’m not sure what the scintiscan is. If you can let me know what it is I’d appreciate it as my son is getting ready to do a Upper GI. He already had a GE scan done.

I think it’s important to rule out any blockage or abnormalities. It’s really non-invasive if you don’t count the radiation. Plus, it’s really cool to watch.

Just my opinion though. If you don’t feel comfortable then it may not be the best thing to do.

i’d get in to the ped gi before i did the radioactive scan. my daughter had one done when she was in jr high. i know she used it once for a paper she had to write. she told all about eating a radioactive egg sandwich.
