Another normal test. He said that everything look great and right on track for his age. I know I should be happy, but I can’t help but feel like I had to go through all that hassle for nothing. At least I have the peace of mind of knowing everything is normal, but it does not explain the glurpy noise when he eats (which I did not do during the test of course) or why he get congested and chokes during and after eating.
He did great during the test. He was starving and getting really mad at me for not feeding him. We were able to keep him distracted so he was not too bad. I think he would have eating anything that was put in front of him by the time we got in there. The speech therapist was great and very helpful. I could not be in the room for the test because I am pregnant, so he played the video for me after and showed me what was going on. It was pretty cool looking.
Sebastian had a ball being the center of attention and charmed the pants off everyone as usual.
He has an apt with the GI on Thursday, so I will show her the video of him eating and see what she thinks. She said the next step would be the scope, which I don’t think we should do at this point. He is happy for the most part and eating enough to be growing well, so I doubt the scope would show any damage. I don’t feel like going through another test just to have it be normal.
I think I will give him until a year and then if he is still have problems take it from there.

It’s great the test came back normal – peace of mind means so much. Great idea about showing the video to your GI on Thursday. At least the scope is another option for you if you would decide to do it. Hopefully he will keep gaining and stay happy and outgrow this crazy reflux for good – wow, only another 2 months and he is a year old – how time flies!!
Hope things keep going well for you!!

It must be so frustrating though to still not have answers. I’m really sorry no one seems to have an answer about the congestion, choking, and glurping sounds he makes. I know I’d be concerned, too.
Does he ever wheeze or cough? I’m wondering if it could be asthma. Does asthma run in your family?
Glad to hear he’s mostly happy and eating well. That’s always good news.
Good luck with the gi appt. Please let us know what she thinks.
October 3, 2006 at 9:13 pm #14877AnonymousInactiveThanks guys. I don’t think it is asthma because it only lasts for an hour or less and is always after he eats or has a bottle. Most of the day he is totally clear and he is fine at night.
I guess if the food is going down ok it must just be comming back up and causing the problems. That is all I can think of. He did not reflux during the test, but it only lasted about 15 min and he only had a few bites/sucks of each item.
I guess I will just wait and see what the GI thinks.

We went to the GI and he told us that he felt she did not have reflux. But now she has been diagnosed with reflux. After we had the swallow study done, we started to thicken her feedings. That really seemed to help her a lot. I hope that your GI is able to give you something that can help your baby!!! Keep us updated!!
