Can you drink rice milk when you are doing TED?
December 5, 2009 at 1:09 pm #64944hellbenntKeymasteryes if you look at the ingredients to make sure there’s no soy in there, too…
Rice Dream has barley in it, so you can’t do that- if you can find a ‘plain’ rice milk…I *think* if you boil rice and use the water it’s like rice milk? not sure – you’ll have to google it…
I ate rice noodles, you name it, lol…
there’s a recipe in the TED forum for rice krispie treats…
you can eat all kinds of rice products…puffed rice w/ rice milk for your cereal,
rice noodles w/ turkey or lamb & squash…
rice cakes w/ pear spread (like apple butter…you can spread babyfood pears)
freeze pear nectar for a sorbet like treat
blend ice, rice milk and pear nectar for a shake…
make mashed potatoes and cream them w/ rice milk

December 5, 2009 at 1:35 pm #64947hellbenntKeymasterphew!
googled it for her and came across the barley thing…darn that google, LOL! (totally kidding!)December 5, 2009 at 1:43 pm #64949AnonymousInactiveThanks Laura- I just googled & this is what I found…
http://www.tastethedream.com/info/qa_ricedream.php#faqid474
…which I’ve never seen/heard of but I’m not concerned since it’s so little (less than .002%) & the dietician (who is very aware of hidden gluten sources, etc & has had us discontinue giving Evan cross-contaminated french fries, etc) hasn’t mentioned it.
Unfortunately, something to think about though-ugh!
Thanks again!
December 5, 2009 at 3:40 pm #64950AnonymousInactiveOf course the store brand that I have been using dose have soy-something in it! Back it goes and I will look for Rice Dreams!
I saw coconut milk when I was looking for the rice milk and that doesn’t contain any soy- is that something worth trying?
And I am almost afraid to ask b/c it’s the one “treat” I feel like I have left, but I never checked into it- is decaf coffee ok?
December 6, 2009 at 6:48 pm #64961hellbenntKeymasterI suppose it is- but I wouldn’t use any artificial sweetners & of course no milk, etc…
January 2, 2010 at 8:38 am #65323AnonymousInactiveavoid rice milk- it may contain arshenic – which is poison
for more info – google rice milk
January 2, 2010 at 11:58 am #65326AnonymousInactiveyou can also try Vance’s DariFree (it’s potato based- sounds yucky, tastes good!) my MFPI son drinks it.
I have also heard of Coconut milk. I think there is one by So Delicious (it might contain soy though, I’d double check) I’ve bought some So Declious coconut milk ice cream sandwiches thinking they were safe for DS2 to eat and they were full of soy protein in the “sandwich” part. DOH! Boy was he sick!jilly782010-01-02 12:00:43
January 2, 2010 at 6:57 pm #65328AnonymousInactiveheard about the arsenic thing too.. but its only for kids under 4.. so i am pretty sure YOU can drink it! and not many doctors even know of this theory.. so i am not sure who you would ask..
coconut milk seems the best option.. 🙂shanesmom2010-01-02 18:58:04
