Hi MorrisonKM,
I also suggest the probiotics. We used Nature’s Way Primadophilus for children (a powder you can mix with water, b-milk or formula) with my oldest (now four) and are currently useing Florastor with my six month old baby. Both children do not do well if I have/had dairy or soy while breastfeeding. Removing all dairy and soy, including “hidden” meaning an ingrediant in a food from the store or in your own baking, is essential to getting the diet going properly. My little one even seems to react to soy lecithin…(VERY sad for me as my favorite cookies from Trader Joes have soy lecithin –as do most store bought cookies) haha. Anyway, often controlling your diet and doing the probiotic can make a HUGE difference with these little ones. My son tested negative for all food allergies– formal allergies– and he is just now at age four and half able to eat wheat. We are still off dairy, he was eating soy by about age two, and we added beef right after his fourth birthday. Normally, children grow out of intolerances even sooner than my son, so there’s hope for you.
Oh, the Nature’s Way probiotic I get at Whole Foods or even your locally owned health food store should be able to get it, and the Florastor you can get from the Target pharmacy or Walgreens. It was cheaper for us to get the 20 pack at Target than at Walgreens. The Florastor has lactase or lactose (I can’t remember which) in it, but even though the baby can’t deal with any dairy (milk, butter, yogurt) she takes the Florastor fine and it seems to help her quite a bit. So, sometimes you just have to experiment. Good luck.

I feel like I am starving and I cant help but worry that I am some way hurting him by not figuring out what is bothering him. Sometimes I feel like he would be better off on neocate. I really need some help and support. When I go out to eat I have no clue what to eat.
Ok and I have this huge fear. I cant help and worry that these intolerances are going to lead to autism. I know that sounds strange but when I research intolerance I keep reading about autism. Maybe someone can make me feel better about this. I dont dare vaccinate while we are trying to figure this out. I am not even sure if he has an intolerance we have had some mucus in our diapers, eczema and poor sleep but that is it. No fussiness at all. We do have reflux which I was medicating then stopped but now started again. I had read that anacids mess up digestion and felt like this is what caused all of this. And here is the other thing we didnt have any issues until 3 months of age. Isnt that late for an intolerance to come on?Also I am confused about soy lecithin. Can I have it or not I know some said they couldnt and some say they can. Of course I ate it today. So last night he slept good. I started his meds back up but I dont think that could work that quickly. I did accidently use my sisters dressing instead of mine so I had soy last night. How quicky would it affect him. He did sleep the best he has in a long time. I also am on day 2 of probiotics. We are using Natures way.Sorry I am full of questions I just feel so alone in dealing with this and it is hard not to give up. I just dont now what to eat especially if I go out.April 9, 2009 at 3:34 pm #62033AnonymousInactiveMorrisonkm9: I understand your confusion and concerns. If you would like to email me at wood dot online at verizon dot net, I have some MSPI-safe food lists and restaurant food lists that I can share with you from when I was in your position of looking for information.
When you go out to eat, you can check the restaurant’s website for information first. Sometimes, they have all the ingredients listed right there for you to examine – this is especially true of fast food places. At sitdown restaurants, you have a different situation. The server likely does not truly know what is used in the kitchen. If it is possible for you to speak with one of the chefs, that is the best option. I know that I went to Outback once and the server asked a chef to come out to talk to me about what I could order. I also used to call the restaurant around 2-3 PM (slow period) and talk to a chef at that point. I don’t remember what foods you are eliminating right now, but if you are only cutting out milk and soy, you could perhaps ask for a piece of fish that is broiled and basted with canola oil only. You can get salad (minus the cheese) with oil and vinegar dressing. You can also bring your own dressing and your own margarine to any restaurant you go to. Be careful of baked potatoes as sometimes they are buttered on the outside. Be careful of meat on the grill because they often use butter on the grill or baste the meat with it (I never knew steaks were sometimes basted with butter). You can always ask them to cook your food on foil or in a clean pan instead of putting it directly on the grill. You can get steamed veggies without the butter. At Ruby Tuesdays, they told me that the veggies were already cooked with butter, so I asked them to use some zucchini that was prepped for their salad bar and simply steam that for me.I hope this helps. And, please feel free to email me for the food lists.April 9, 2009 at 4:09 pm #62035AnonymousInactiveDainne had some really good info. I couldn’t use soy lecithin with Reidun. Within 24 hrs of earing something bad I could tell with her–and then it took two weeks of eating clean for her to return to normal.
We also held off on many vaccines with her. She doesn’t have her MMR yet–we plan to give to her this summer. I’m nervous about that.Perhaps you should try Neocate? and then pump while using it so you can go back to breastfeeding? Like you said–your son might not even have intolerances! The MSPI diet can be so hard!!The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook by Cybele Pascal was a lifesaver for me–I felt like I was starving before I got her book.Good luck!Heidi 🙂April 21, 2009 at 4:23 pm #62224AnonymousInactiveSo I am on day 5 of the TED and his eczema has almost completely cleared up. His stools are still mucusy but he also has had a 102+ fever for the past couple of days. Do you think the virus could make his stools this way? I just thought the mucus would leave before the eczema. His sleep is also better but maybe because he had a fever? NOt sure. How long did it take for you to see a difference in their stools when on the TED?
April 21, 2009 at 4:37 pm #62225AnonymousInactiveI think it took about 2 weeks on TEd to notice a difference?…It was a long time ago :/
The virus could be making the stool worse, and sleep better.Time will tell. Good luck!!April 21, 2009 at 6:33 pm #62226hellbenntKeymasterThis is an old thread. I’m not sure if I should close it?
It is a Stickied Post and people could click on the username to send a PM (Private Message)…maybe by this post it will be ‘unofficially’ closed…morrisonkm9 you could start a new thread with questions and then PM Heidi w/ the link to your thread so she could pop on the new thread and answer…I do understand that by posting here, she will see it (IF she is subscribed to the thread to receive emails notifying her when the thread is updated, which she is)April 21, 2009 at 8:09 pm #62227AnonymousInactiveShe has been answering over here so that is why I just kept posting here. I actually got more answers from ppl when I posted under this b/c people have this tagged in their email.
April 21, 2009 at 10:31 pm #62228hellbenntKeymasterno problem- just wanting to keep the option open to sending members a PM to point them in the direction of a post…
