Well i didn’t want to post this b/c i am always posting negative but Isaac has been refusing to eat again. We are down to 14 oz of formula and that was it-no solids! This happened for about a week-the beginning he was eating 20 oz and slowly tapered to 14. We went to the ped yesterday and he said Isaac has a double ear infection. He weighs 19 lbs which made him fall down the weight growth chart quite a bit. His ped says he is not worried alot about his weight but says we have to come back for a weight check in 2 weeks to make sure that nothing else is going on. I think he is just being a little cautious. So he is on amoxicilan (sp) and motrin around the clock. The weird thing is he really wasn’t screaming at all. He was a little fussy and i thought it was from a new tooth. He is still not grouchy at all.

I never would have thought an ear infection either…I probably would have thought reflux or teething. I thought that 19 pounds was pretty good- 50th percentile or so, isn’t it? I know it can be so awful when they don’t eat- we’ve also been doing the 15 oz thing these days with no solids. It’s scary. I really hope the antibiotic helps and he feels better soon. You might want to consider giving him some acidophilus while on the medicine to prevent thrush etc. Keep us posted.

He was at the 90th percentile and has fallen pretty quickly to below the 50th. The chart is different for boys and girls. Both ped and I are not very concerned but he just wants to make sure Isaac is still growing as we have had weight issues and food refusal before (I thought that was long behind us haha). I really just think genetics are kicking in b/c my dh has always had trouble gaining weight. I may be able to give him yogurt soon see my post under mspi about trialing milk isaacsmom6182006-3-17 14:26:36
March 17, 2006 at 8:12 pm #4113AnonymousInactiveKaelyn has had several ear infections. Only one of them was discovered because we took her to the ped thinking that she had an ear infection. Every other one was diagnosed when we were at the ped for something else. Like you said, there were never any clear signs of an ear infection, just crankiness. She also lost weight with several of them, but always got her appetite back with a vengeance when she started to feel better. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Isaac does the same!

Laura, This ear infection in my opinion is reflux related b/c he hasn’t had a cold in about a month. Thanks!
