Rectal boil?

Hi guys. I have a strange situation. My baby has developed a boil, or abscess on his anus. And as strange as it sounds I am fairly certain it is a result of beginning solid foods. When he has solid foods, it gets large (size of a nickel), red, swollen and you can see the puss in it. Not to be to graphic but is looks like a nasty cold sore right before it breaks through the skin. When it is inflamed like this he strains really hard to poop, even when the stool is really soft. If he goes a few days without solids and just has the Neocate, it seems to shrink down to almost nothing. Has anybody heard of this? What could cause this? The solids correlation could be a total coincidence but I don’t think so. Here is my other concern…should I be worried that his colon and intestines have these same sores?

Hi Chris,

I think this warrants a visit or the very least a call to the doctor….. I am not sure what could cause this,etc.. but I would at least let the doc take a look and let you know… I am thinking maybe staph infection? but I am def. not a doc and I have not seen it….

I agree that you should get it checked out ASAP. I know your LO was battling Cdiff. Could it be related? JMO, get it looked at ASAP. Good Luck! I hope your LO starts feeling better soon.

I immediately thought of staph as well. And remembering that you have been dealing with c-diff for so long as well just makes me wonder. I would go to the ped and i would make sure that it was “showing” when you went. Let us know what you find out.

I agree with the others. I hope it’s nothing to worry about and that the one you can “see” is the only one and that it can be treated quickly. Let us know what the Dr. says. Sorry you have something else to worry about now.
