my daughter, sylvia, had a fundo just before she turned 10 months old. she was failure to thrive, anemic, her esophagus was getting ulcerated and she was refluxing almost 25% of the time, overall. when she was upright, she was refluxing almost 29% of the time—so much for keeping them upright to help with reflux!! she also had some prolonged episodes of reflux—the longest lasting 44 minutes. a friend of mine had a grandson who had had a fundo—-she had her daughter-in-law give me a call and the gal told me that she would “do it again in a heartbeat.” i have used those exact words to other people. we did not know it until surgery, but sylvia had a good size hiatal hernia which had not shown during two upper gi’s or when she had her endoscopy done, either. sylvia has never had any complications from her fundo—–but she wasn’t going to get better without it, either. sylvia continued to be FTT until she was 2 years old—but she had a few other health issues that took us a little while to figure out. she turns 4 years old on saturday. she still only weighs about 30 lbs., but she is a ball of fire!!
i have reflux myself and at times it has been so bad that i may consider having a fundo myself at some point.
