I need some help from you more experienced moms or at least am wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this? This evening my 3yo randomly threw up, in my SUV of all places. This is the second time she has done this in the past three months or so. Both times it has been around dinner time, she was extremely tired and she had recently eaten canned fruit (pineapple or peaches), we were not driving both times. She is clearly not sick from what I can see, no fever, high energy level, wants to eat and drink right away (which I don’t allow), definitely NOT sick. So, I’m wondering do some kids throw up when they are overtired? Maybe this is still a little bit of reflux rearing its head now and then? She had severe reflux as an infant through about 18 months and was diagnosed with a gastric emptying delay. She ocassionally will still reflux when she has a cold (which she does currently) but doesn’t usually complain of pain. Or maybe an allergy to pineapple and peaches, or if she is refluxing a little maybe these fruits are too acidic and aggravate it? Let me know what you think. I absolutely detest vomit and if there is any way to avoid this, I want to know about it! I may call the GI Specialist on Tuesday and see what they think. Thanks!

When she was around 2 years old, she randomly vomited. She had no fever, wasn’t lethargic, has no food allergies or intolerances. It was VERY weird, b/c is was like she would vomit one night and be fine for 2 days. Then, she would vomit 2 times in one day and not vomit for a week. She had blood tests and allergy tests and the drs still couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. They suggested that I take her to a psychologist b/c it was in her (or my) head. As a last resort, they did a urinalysis and low and behold she had a urinary tract infection. She never complained of pain and burning or anything. Her dr told me that in young children and the elderly, a UTI often manifests itself as vomiting. Not sure if this will help or not, but a UTI is a really easy thing to rule out. Good luck and I hope you get some answers!!September 3, 2008 at 1:08 am #56004AnonymousInactiveThanks for the suggestion Kristin. I am getting to the point now where I am going to check into this. She has thrown up every other day since my first post. I wasn’t sure at first b/c she has had a UTI before and it showed up as a high fever that wouldn’t go away after 5-7 days. But now her only symptom is the vomiting. I wondered too if she was stressed about something b/c we are potty training now too, but the UT would be easy to rule out. Thanks again!
