It is hard to know, for certain. There are symtoms which could indicate intolerance, but the best test is to eliminate that food entirely and see if the symptoms improve. Common symptoms of MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance) in our babies include reflux/GERD, mucus in stool, blood in stool (visible or not), irritability, poor sleep, excessive gas, recurrent ear infections, allergic shiners (bluish color under eyes), stuffy/runny nose, constipation or diarrhea, and eczema.
It could be worth a try to switch formula. If he IS intolerant to soy, just think of the improvement he could have if you switch to a hypoallergenic or elemental formula. If he isn’t, then I suppose you just wouldn’t see any improvement of his symptoms.
