I have some questions about eosinophilic gastritis. Camryn had a scope done the beginning of the month. They took biopsies as well. Then on the 21st she saw her GI doctor. He put her on Elecare Vanilla since she is 13 months old. He hadn’t had a chance to personally look at her biopsies before seeing her, so he didn’t want to change anything else at that point.
Well she wouldn’t touch the Elecare, so I mixed it 1/2 with her nutramigen , and by the end of the second day she was drinking the Elecare without mixing it. The first night it took me 5 hours to get her to sleep. (Which I found out that part of her crankiness was her 1st 1 year molar.) I ended up giving her a little benadryl to help her rest. I phoned the doctor the next day, and they informed me that she has eosinophilic gastritis. They told me to keep her dairy free for the weekend to see if she gets any better, and then let them know on Tuesday. Well last night wasn’t much better.
Does anyone have any information regarding this disorder. I have joined the yahoo groups as well to see if they have some help. Does any one have any links to dairy free recipes, as she isn’t going to tolerate a formula only diet? She loves to eat everything that won’t eat her first.
If she drinks milk or eats cottage cheese she gets diarrhea and breaks out in a rash on her bottom. She really doesn’t seem to have any symptoms if she eats cheese, ice cream, or bread.
The only symptom she seems to have is gas pains, and her reflux.
Thank you for any help or suggestions.

We started with 4 packets per bottle and worked our way down. I buy a box of 1,000 Splenda packets at Sams Club for around $23.

stickied there is ‘MSPI/Allergy INformation’this is full of infoalsoif you go to ‘Active Topics’ you’ll see that REiden’s mother heidi has posted- her post ‘Reidun’s story and collected info’ might even be a sticky! but anyway it should be in Active topics if you choose from the past day or even week, from the drop down menu…I would also ask about no soy as well…once you get milk and soy proteins cleared out of the system, I’d slowly try to see if there are other proteins that are affecting her…May 25, 2008 at 9:17 am #51764AnonymousInactiveThanks for all of your replies.
Laura,
Thank you that post was very helpful in find more information. I am not exactly what all she is allergic to as of yet. We took all dairy out of her diet, even the hidden dairy. Last night she had a rash on her little bottom. She is still quite a bit cranky after she has a bottle of the Elecare. We all feel guilty if we eat anything that she can’t have. I myself have steered away from that stuff while she is awake. I don’t want her to feel alone. It makes me feel really mean to tell her no she can’t have something to eat, especially when I know she absolutely loves it.
Thanks again for your support and suggestions.
