I forgot one last thng on my post I keep hearing that pps take a few weeks to become effective but when i called prevacid directly they explained to me that it actually starts working from day one. So iam confused could it just be that my son needs a higher dose or does the med really take that long to work
February 1, 2008 at 12:51 pm #47905AnonymousInactiveTHe prevacid does start working from day one, but the little ones don’t start to get real relief for a few days or even 2 weeks. When my lo was already on 20mg & we pushed her up to 30mg, she did get a little better right away, but even then it was at least 1- 1.5 weeks before all the symptoms were gone. There’s a lot going on in there between the acid and the damage that’s already been done, so you need to give it some time. I know it’s hard, my husband & I would sit there nearly in tears those first few months, until finally we got the right dose and it really kicked in. Just please know that everyone’s here for you!!
Do you have anything else that you can give him, was he on anything like Zantac or Axid before the prevacid? You may want to check with the doc or others here, but I believe many people kept their babies on zantac/axid until the first 2 weeks of the prevacid was up. I do know the prevacid & zantac/axid must be given at least 4 hours apart, so you’d need to do some math. Many people here also find great relief by giving their lo’s Mylanta Cherry Supreme, but you’ll have to check and see what kind of dosage, I’m not sure of that one either. Hope this helps, hang in there!!February 1, 2008 at 4:23 pm #47912AnonymousInactivewhat is axid? I know my son needs more of the prevacid but the doctor refuses to up the dose.

February 3, 2008 at 8:18 pm #47958AnonymousInactiveHello!!! I am hoping someone can help me with my baby’s dosage of prevacid. I believe her dosage is too low. We saw her ped 2 months ago and we were referred to a GI and we are not seeing him until Feb 12/08, with a follow up apt with the ped a week later. Her ped didn’t see a need to see her before the two months reason was that she was finally gaining weight. She is presently taking Prevacid Oral Suspension Compound 1.5ml (4.5mg) twice a day. This medication has to be refrigerated and is only good for two weeks. Can anyone help me with her daosage she should be getting. I tried marc-kid web sight but I couldn’t really figure it out. I know kind of silly of me, but these days I am a LITTLE tired. She is 5 months old and weighs about 14- 14 1/2 pounds. Please HELP!!!
February 3, 2008 at 10:01 pm #47959AnonymousInactiveHey Tracy. from what I can figure, it should be 24-30 mgs./day. The suggest that this be administered over three doses each day. So something like 8-10 mgs. each dose for three separate doses. From your post, it looks like your lo is only getting 4.5 mgs two times a day for a total of 10 mgs. Is that right? So, it looks like there is PLENTY of room for you to move up in the dose.
You also may want to look at the info in the “medicine” section regarding compounds. They are notoriously unstable and often not prepared well. The marci-kids site also provides info about them.Good luck.February 4, 2008 at 9:08 am #47964AnonymousInactiveThanks Naomi, I put a call into the ped today asking him to up the dose and suggested 3 times a day. I am wating on a call from him. I did read on the marci sight that the type of med (prevacid) she is on can only last a short time due to that way the pharmacy makes it, I am so frustrated with this. I hope something is done soon. Thanks again!!
