Protein Content in Stage 1 Fruits and Veggies

Since my daughter Paige has failed all solid trials thus far, I started to do a little research about protein content in various stage 1 foods to hopefully guide me in choosing which foods to try first when we do eventually start another solids trial. My thoughts are that it is the protein content she is likely reacting to, so the next time we decide to try solids I will start with the one with the least protein content. I thought I would share what I have found because someone else may find it beneficial as well.

I am listing grams of protein per 100 grams of the fruit/vegetable.

Fruits

Apple: 0.26g / 100g

Banana: 1.09g / 100g

Peach: 0.91g / 100g

Pear: 0.38g / 100g

Vegetables

Carrots: 0.93g / 100g

Beans: 1.82g / 100g

Peas: 5.42g / 100g

Squash: 1.08g / 100g

Sweet Potato: 1.57g / 100g

This is really helpful. Evie will be 6 mos. next week and I started a solids trial about 5 weeks ago and it didn’t go so well. I was giving squash, sweet potatoes and carrots. Everything was great until I think there was a “protein buildup” and there were mucousy stools all over again. Maybe I tried too early, but I think I’m going to try pears first. Does this mean your LO hasn’t had any solids yet?? I think Evie has really bad MSPI and may not be able to handle solids either. She is on straight Neocate right now.

We’ve done 2 seperate cereal trials (Beechnut brand Oatmeal) in the past and just 2 weeks ago we tried sweet potatoes, and she reacted horribly each time! She was still having mucus in her BMs today, and we stopped the sweet potato 8 days ago. So now, at nearly 8 & 1/2 months she is on only Neocate. I think I’ll wait at least a month or two to try again, and maybe then try apple first, and if that goes well, try adding pear.

Good luck with Evie – it’s so hard when these little ones can’t eat anything!
