My daughter was finally better with Prilosec 10mg/day. I was giving her compounded form of it and she was taking it as it was flavoured. I did take care that it was refilled ever 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, she did take her bottles sometimes without fight which is a miracle to me. Then she started refusing her compounded Prilosec (I guess due to the nasty taste of Sodium bicarbonate?). I consulted her Ped nurse and started giving her prilosec beads in applesauce. Now, she is constipated, refusing feeds, refusing medicines too. She has gone back to old days of screaming and arching.
Is there any other way of giving Prilosec?

You mix it up yourself one packet at a time and once it is mixed up, it is stable in the refrigerator for up to 21 days. It has a peachy/mint flavor that some kids love and other kids…don’t….love. But you should give it a try. Other moms on here that have used it can tell you more. Check out http://www.MARCI-Kids.com for more information on dosing and mixing up Zegerid for infants. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about Zegerid or other PPIs: [email protected]

Is there any difference between Zegrid and properly compounded form of Prilosec? I meant does Zegrid too contain sodium bicarbonate?
I need to medicate my daughter even if I dont get a script for Zegrid…Prilosec was so promising…Is it worthless incase I administer Prilosec without applesauce (acidic base???)
February 3, 2006 at 2:52 pm #627AnonymousInactiveWhat reasons did your doctors give for refusing to write you a script for Zegerid? Do you need some research to take to them?
If you give the Prilosec granules in any non-acidic food, the enteric coating may be compromised and not be there to protect the drug from the acid in her stomach. You could give it in any other acidic food such as plums. Maybe that would not constipate her?

It does seem that they are not aware of it and they pretend they dont have time to learn about it. Its frustating as I did take out time to make that folder with my high need baby

It’s a well known and commonly prescribed drug known as omeprazole – the same drug as found in Prilosec! Omeprazole has been around for years and is one of the two PPIs that have FDA approval for pediatric use. These doctors don’t pay attention and see that this is not some new drug, but a new and better formulation of an old standard. You could tell him that, but he probably won’t listen still.
