My baby was on prevacis solutabs but developed bad eczema so we stopped. we are using priolsec, which is so hard t get him to take. does the powder packets have any milk substance or lactose like the solutab? thanks thinking about maybe trying the powder but worried if it was the prevacid or sloutab that caused eczema?-Daniela
April 4, 2008 at 7:32 am #49865hellbenntKeymasterif you use the powder then you can strain out the beads- it’s a pain in the neck but a LOT of folks on this board have done so…the powder is ‘just’ the flavoring…it’s hard to know if your baby reacted to the lactose in the solutabs or the aspertame or the flavoring…

My son Nathan also was bothered by the lactose in the solutabs, so we switched to the powder packets several months ago since they contain no milk ingredients. He did great on the packets, but they have been discontinued (at least that’s what every pharmacy in town has told me, but you could double-check yours).
So, a couple of months ago we switched again to Prevacid capsules. You just open them up and pour the medicine balls onto a spoonful of applesauce — it’s really simple for a baby who’s accustomed to the spoon. How old is your son? Also, I believe the medicine balls from the capsules can just be mixed with a little apple juice and given in a dropper — does anyone know for sure???
April 4, 2008 at 9:56 am #49874hellbenntKeymasterpaula, yes the beads inside the capsules can be given w/ something like apple sauce or apple juice- I don’t think they dissolve, though, nor do I think they’d be effective if they dissolved- I *thin k* that there’s an explanation in one of the stickd posts in the Medicine Forum

Hmmm…I’ll remember that. After my first refluxer was med-free, I continued to fill his Prevacid Rx to stock up for the next child, just in case. And boy, did it come in handy in the time before I could find a doc who would prescribe marci-kids doses….except my second refluxer couldn’t tolerate the solutabs too well, so we ended up with the capsules. I will definitely stock up on the capsules as Nathan weans off them in case there’s a 3rd refluxer one day!!April 6, 2008 at 1:35 pm #49973hellbenntKeymasterI’m not sure about the capsules/beads w/ a newborn bcse the beads don’t dissolve- so maybe you’d be afraid of them sticking in their throat? I really don’t know- I’m sure there are posts about this somewhere around here, LOL! from what I understand the applesauce and the apple juice help get the beads inside the stomach and the little bit of acidity help them dissolve in the stomach- again I know there’s a great explanation of this somewhere- probably a stickie in the Medicine Forum…
