Prevacid/MSPI

My little one is squirming so no time to type- so my question is if he is reacting badly to prevacid I think because of mspi is zegerid a good option?

I actually have the same question. We have been on prevacid for a short amount of time and our little one started out wonderfully. After a few days she started to push away the bottle. Four days later she is back to spitting/throwing up and a bit more fussiness. I know Prevacid solutabs have lactose in them and I’m thinking that it may be causing a negative reaction to her MSPI. Anyone else notice a similar reaction. We’ve just been prescribed Zegerid and plan to start it tomorrow.

first of all, PPIs needs a good 2 weeks to ‘kick in’ so if it hasn’t been that long there still is hope…

next, a PROPER dose is important, otherwise you won’t get the full effects/results: http://www.marci-kids.com look for the dosing calculator/chart and just browse the sight in general

also: administering solutabs is important too- give on an empty stomach followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later

I thought the same thing, but DD’s GI said that there was not enough lactose in the Prevacid to warrant a reaction.

Eventually our dosing was corrected and the Prevacid did seem to help her symptoms.

If your ins covers Zegrid, I have heard from the folks here that it works great. My ins does not offer Zegrid so it was out of the question.

We had some similar reactions to prevacid. We were on prevacid for 2 months. It made a huge improvement in the reflux pain area, but like clockwork about an hour or so after each prevacid dose, DS was super gassy, squirmy, fussy. We just switched to zegerid(tums buffer) last week and DS has been a totally different baby. I thought he was doing well on prevacid, but since being on zegerid there has been even more improvement and no more fussy, squirmy gassy episodes. He is a pretty happy baby these days. Our GI told us that the lactose in the prevacid might be an issue if LO was lactose intolerant, but should not be a problem with MSPI.(then went into the whole its very very rare for babies to have a true lactose intolerance, etc) I asked her to humor me and switch his meds. I am so glad we did. So, who knows what caused the episodes, but the important thing is after switching to zegerid they resolved.
