Last Wednesday Lauren was put on the Prevacid solutabs 15mg in the am and 7.5 mg in the p.m. Although her reflux symptoms have improved, we are noticing a direct correlation with Prevacid doses. We give it on an empty stomach and then feed her 30 min. afterwards. She will take about 1 to 2 ounces and then stop and cry, pull up her legs for 5-10 minutes. Once we get her calmed back down, she will finish her bottle but seems uncomfortable for the next hour or so. This is only happening with the 2 bottles following the Prevacid doses. I have been reading where the Prevacid solutabs can cause stomach cramping and/or increased gas. First of all, does this sound like a side effect of the Prevacid or of the reflux??? Second, once her body gets more used to the medication does this usually subside? We are just full of questions at this point! Thanks for any insight you might have!!

The side effects of Prevacid are not exactly common but if she’s having any yes they should subside. You can expect to see some improvement as a result of the Prevacid in about 7-14 days. In the meantime, are you giving anything else? Mylanta? debit342006-2-17 11:46:2

We are giving the Mylanta Cherry Supreme in between the Prevacid doses (at least 2 hours apart) which does seem to help. It is just the feeds after the Prevacid…..cries screams puts herself to sleep due to the pain She then calms down after about 30 minutes and will take her bottle. It is so strange though…she can have Prevacid and wait out the 30 minutes without any problems/crying, etc, but as soon as the formula hits her tummy it is a BATTLE! Thanks for your help
February 17, 2006 at 1:05 pm #1756AnonymousInactiveWe had a problem with prevacid twice that we tried it. Both times he got horrible stomach pain and we discontinued it both times. Nothing really seemed to help the pain. Sorry i couldn’t be of more help to you!

Unfortunately she had horrible gas and cramping due to the prevacid. WE just recently switched to zegerid, which was very easy to do and we don’t have the stomach problems anymore.

The only reason I finally figured it out was because she would have a really full yuck diaper first thing in the am after waking up with discomfort consistently. She was a terrible sleeper so it was really the gross diaper that cued me in. Prevacid can cause stomach cramping and upset if given too much at once . ..sort of a system lube – ewww. So if the avg. 14 days has gone by for Prevacid intro and you still are seeing signs of discomfort, maybe its the ingredients in the solutab (has lactose) or its too much at once maybe? Have you tried splitting the dose differently? Can you try three doses a day maybe?
