No they have . He’s just been teetering around 16 lbs the whole time. Hes been that weight since 4 months. I don’t know of any other doctors that are close to me. The only other GI dr is probably 2 hours from here. I am livid that he has a double ear infection too! I have been back and forth to the drs office so many times over the past month and a resident here at the hospital finally looked in his ears. Also here we sit for reflux and yet no antacid has even been ordered for him????
March 5, 2012 at 11:27 pm #70025AnonymousInactiveI do want to add one more thing. I think he may have had a virus this weekend tho;( he is not typically vomiter but Saturday he vomited and vomited and vomited!!! I thought it would never end!!! He wound up taking pedialyte that evening and kept downaybe 5 ounces for the day
March 5, 2012 at 11:35 pm #70026AnonymousInactiveon feb 18 you told us he weighed 16 lbs–that was only half a month ago–if this is true–than this is a much more serious weight loss—an entire pound in 2 weeks is some serious business–if your docs missed this when they did his scope and probe last week you are in the wrong place–i can not stress this enough–get your baby away from these docs. somethjing is obviously very, very wrong with him if he has lost that much weight in that short of a time–i don’t know how he is not seruiously dehydrated and i don’t know why your doctor did not say something when he had his test done. they are going to kill you baby if you do not get him somewhere like the mayo clinic. i did not realize how serious this actually was until i looked back over your posts. you are obviously so tired, you don’t even remember what you post. you have told us he was screaming 90% of the time and you have also told us he has periodic screaming. you really need some rest to be able to keep your own thought s straight. it is really hard for us to try and help when the info is not complete and it keeps changing.
March 5, 2012 at 11:39 pm #70027AnonymousInactivehe doesn’t need an antacid–his reflux is only mild–and you told us the new doc put him on nexium–so there would be no need for an antacid anyway.kevieb2012-03-05 23:41:38
March 5, 2012 at 11:44 pm #70028AnonymousInactivewe drove 3 hours to see our ped gi. i have known peole to fly across the US to get their baby help–but, it does not sound like reflux is your problem–his tests only show mild reflux. if he is as bad as you say—if it were me–i’d be on a plane to the best doctor i could find no matter how much i had to pay or how far i had to go to save my child’s life. he is in serious danger where you are.
if you have been in repetedly and they never bothered top check his ears–you are in the wrong place!!!!!!March 5, 2012 at 11:51 pm #70029AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry it seems as if some days are better than others today has been rough just screaming all day ling until I got him to bed tonight . I am so tired and I feel like a prisoner in my house . I can’t take him anywhere cause he will scream. Sometimes I feel as if he is getting better because he only screams periodically then other days its all day long!!! I am just so miserable. I dont even want to go pick up my other child from school because I don’t want Logan to scream the entire time. It seems like he is getting worse by the day 🙁 I appreciate all the help I am getting from yall though and all the advice because I need it !!!! I just want to help him! I don’t want him to scream in pain all day anymore!
March 5, 2012 at 11:55 pm #70030AnonymousInactive2 weeks ago he was 16 lbs. Today they weighed him at the hospital and he is 15.3.
March 5, 2012 at 11:58 pm #70031AnonymousInactivewell, at least you got him to go to sleep at the hospital–tell the nurses you are exhausted and having trouble remembering things and ask them if they could please let you sleep for awhile—it’s their job to watch after their patients–so you should be able to get some badly needed rest.
March 6, 2012 at 12:03 am #70032AnonymousInactiveOk. Goodnight . I will post tomorrow and let you know how things are or if not I will post on Wednesday when we go home
March 6, 2012 at 7:48 am #70033hellbenntKeymasterMarch 7, 2012 at 3:14 pm #70038AnonymousInactiveSo it looks like we are gonna see an ENT now !! After months of reflux treatments…which have gotten us nowhere!!! This looks like it’s our next step!!
March 7, 2012 at 4:19 pm #70039AnonymousInactiveMy son’s upper GI showed only mild to moderate reflux and yet he developed a full blown feeding aversion, so it’s possible in my mind that even mild reflux would require medication in some infants. And the combination of mild reflux, ear infection, teething and a virus could be unbearable for a little baby.
I hope they get to the bottom of this soon, and I sure hope the ng tube is only for a short time. Are they trying to feed him at all? Poor little guy. And poor mommy.
March 7, 2012 at 9:04 pm #70040AnonymousInactivetheres a difference between mild and mild to moderate. so i don’t disagree with you, Christine, that even mild reflux might require medication in some infants. (love your name, by the way–it’s always so weir to type to type your own name!) logan IS on medication. his doctor put him on nexium last week and he has been on a variety of other medications all along.
i was only saying that he didn’t need an antacid last night at the hospital because he was already on nexium and he only shows mild reflux. apparently he did not show anything on his biopsies or i’m sure that Teia Lane would have posted the results. there has been plenty of time for them to be back. with a ph probe showing only mild reflux and biopsies showing nothing it really doews not sound like he has a reflux problem. It was sounding like she had some really lousy doctors–they totally missed his rather large weight loss in only a 2 week period, and they were suggesting doing a fundo after only 2 weeks of difficult feeding when his tests were showing only mild reflux. he is not FTT, even with his recent weight loss–but she says he got a nasty tummy bug and threw up alot over the weekend, which probably explains that. he normally does not throw up, he is not aspirating. jumping to suggest a fundo, which is a pretty major surgery, seemed waaay overkill and has the possibility of giving him more problems than he seems to be having—oh, yeah, and with numerous doctor visits, no one bothered to check his ears.it just seems like there are so many things that could still be checked out and there doesn’t seem to be ANY justification for a fundo to even be considered.didn’t your son have a scope and a ph probe? an upper gi really cannot tell how bad reflux is. sylvia had two upper gi’s and neither one of them showed how severe her reflux was and neither one showed her hiatal hernia.March 7, 2012 at 9:06 pm #70041AnonymousInactiveTeia, who finally made the decision to send you to an ENT? are you home from the hospital? did they remove the NG tube? Are you seeing a PEDIATRIC ENT? if not, request one specificially. I didn’t even know there were Ped ENTs until our ped gi sent sylvia to one. if we have one in Idaho, you’ve got to have one where you are.
March 7, 2012 at 9:53 pm #70042AnonymousInactiveWe still are at the hospital. He is on neocate not saying that will make a difference as we tried elecare before! He is taking bottles by mouth and thus far he is having a fantastic night!!! Yay!!! The GI dr came by earlier and still doesn’t think he needs an antacid at all! He did prescribe him some carafate! He has been on antibiotics for his ears for 48 hours now and tonight seems like a different baby. I called his pediatrician earlier and specifically requested for a peds ENT to come see him before we go home! He said that he would make sure that happens first thing in the morning but he finds it highly unlikely that an ear infection would be responsible for a baby screaming for 3 months!!! But I swear I have a different baby tonight!!!!
