PPI weaning question

We have weaned Ben down from his 48 mgs of Zegerid a day to just 8 mgs a day. This has been an EXTREMELY slow process. Seriously, we started when he was just at a year, and with ear infections, tube surgery, teething, milk trials, etc… it just took a long time. Now that he is down to the 8 mgs., we are thinking it is time to go even lower.

My question is whether I should drop to 4 mgs. and then eventually to nothing or should I just drop it altogether. Would 4 mgs. even be worth it? We have been going down 4 mgs. each wean so far, but I just didn’t know if 4 mgs. alone would really do anything for him.

Any thoughts??

Naomi, I just posted a similar question regarding Cooper’s prevacid. I am going from 30mg to 22.5mg to 15 mg to 7.5mg and then none. I am doing it this way mainly b/c I am cutting his doses in 1/2 and then out. I don’t know about Zegerid, but I would think that you could probably just stop instead of going to 4mg. I think Amy (amy0013) can probably help with this from what she did with Sarah. I hope she chimes in for you. This weaning process is such a pain.

With Abby, we went from 8mg down to nothing and didn’t have any problems. Good luck with whatever way you decide to do it. I remember how scary the whole weaning process was. Hope things go well!!

I think what we did at the end was to give the dose every other day for a week (maybe it was 2 weeks) and after that stop…something along those lines…

We had Sarah down to 4mg or 6mg…can’t remember which and I emailed Dr. Phillips. He said that she was practically med free at such a low dose and to drop it all together. I’d say drop it from 8mg. GOOD LUCK!!!
