Possible Pyloric Stenosis

Has anyone here dealt with this? I’m new here, and saw a seperate forum for P.S., but there were no messages in it…

We have a Pyloric U/S scheduled for 10/3 to see if this is what Peyton’s issue is. The first Dr we saw just chalked his symptoms up to reflux and started him on .5ml of Zantac. After 5 days we haven’t seen any improvement, and he seems to be getting worse. He vomits (a lot of times projectile) almost after every meal, and then is instantly hungry again. He will want to eat every hour throughout the night and never seems to be satisfied. He is gaining weight ok, which is a miracle since everything seems to be coming up again.

He had a really rough day today and has been randomly throwing up off and on throughout the day. He freaks out afterwards and it just breaks my heart. I broke down and cried @ the Dr’s office today, it’s just SO stressful and breaks my heart so much to see him in so much pain!

Hi and welcome!

I think pyloric stenosis can cause delayed gastric emptying & severe spitting up, which is probably why your doc. suspects it. But I just wanted to let you know that it is possible to have those symptoms without having pyloric stenosis. My son has DGE and was spitting up tons, (I thought he might possible have PS), but it ended up being treatable with drugs only (not surgery). Good luck with your PS test. I hope she doesn’t have that, and it will be something more easily treated. Keep us posted!

Hi and Welcome Michelle!!

It is so hard being a Mommy to a little refluxer. But believe me, crying is OK for you to do and very normal with what you are going through. It hurts so much to see your little one in pain and having to deal with all the post-pregnancy emotions too. I hope you have a good support system – you definitely have one with everyone on this board . I never knew there could be such a great group of ladies (and occaisionally guys) who have so much knowledge, friendshilp and support.

Hope your appointment gives you the answers and reassurance you need and you can get your little one on the path to happiness.

Hi, I have two nephews that had Pyloric Stenosis. I know you have already had the surgery by now, but it was a piece of cake for them. With Pyloric Stenosis, the muscle at the bottom of the stomach is too thick/tight and doesn’t let food OUT of the stomach into the intestines (forcing the food to come back up). They just make an incision into the muscle and it opens up. By the way their names are Lance and Peyton! They have had no problems with reflux since the surgeries.

I know how scary it can be to have your little tiny baby have surgery. My son was born with ea/tef and his esophagus was sewed/attached to his stomach when he was three days old! They couldn’t do it laprascopically (sp?), but his scars looks great now that he’s 3 yrs old!
