Sorry in advance for posting these, but I saw there was another thread with pics, so I didn’t think anyone on this site would mind more poo!
DS is one month old and is getting breastmilk ( pumped ) and alimentum. She has been really fussy after eating lately, and todays diaper had what I think is mucous and a red dot, which I am guessing is blood. I am really not trying to scrutinize things, but my other two had reflux and milk proteins issues, so call me ready…I have given her mylanta the past 2 days, once a day since she seemed so fussy, I thought maybe if it was gas/reflux it would help. So maybe that could be a reason for the mucous??Does this look like mucous to anyone else or just normal BM poo. Is a speck of red reason to assume a milk sensitivity or can they sometimes just have that? I checked her bottom for any tears, and there wasn’t anything…Okay, I can’t get photos to upload so that they are bigger…July 14, 2009 at 8:55 pm #63282AnonymousInactiveokay, i am tiiiiired- i meant my DD, not DS! Habit I guess…

July 14, 2009 at 9:42 pm #63284AnonymousInactiveI would say that the first and last pics do look kind of mucousy, but they are small so it is hard to tell. since your other 2 had milk protein issues I think it is a safe bet that your dd does as well. Our ped Gi told us we have a 50/50 chance of having other children with the same problem. If the blood was bright red I would guess that she has a tear somewhere, possibly internal but near her anal opening, if it is darker red or coffee ground in appearance that is when I would be more concerned with the milk allergy showing in her stool. You could always do an occult blood test to see if it is something to really be concerned with. HTH.
July 15, 2009 at 12:03 am #63286hellbenntKeymasterdoes look mucousy…slimey…is this every diaper or just here & there? if it’s every diaper then maybe address it? but aren’t you already dairy-free? soy free?
July 15, 2009 at 8:51 am #63287AnonymousInactiveI have been dairy free, but have had a few things here and there… ugh…yesterday she was up pretty much all day. If she did fall asleep it was only for a bit. And last night she was really fussy, usually she eats and goes right back down…
I guess I wanted to make sure the mylanta wouldn’t be the culprit, would it “clean her out” so to speak??Okay- I am going to be checking out the diapers today and go from there…July 15, 2009 at 10:29 am #63288hellbenntKeymasterI haven’t heard of mylanta causing problem, but you never know!
she could be sensitive to the flavoring, etc…ack.mylanta does cause loose stools so that might be it?July 15, 2009 at 4:14 pm #63295AnonymousInactivemylanta caused mucous in my little one. well she had mucous anyhow.. but it caused even more! and she had gas pains with it.
also my sisters baby is breastfed.. had mucous too.. they wornt too concerned because otherwise she was good. i would say if that alone was the only thing i would just ignore it.. but if she is cranky and sleepless then i would address it.July 15, 2009 at 4:28 pm #63298AnonymousInactiveshe has been sleepless/cranky as of late- but today she is a log-maybe just catching up…
todays poo was watery an just a bit seedy like normal- no mucous. back to no cheating on the dairy! -
