Sarah has had loose stools up to 4-5 times a day for several days now. They have burned her little butt raw! She is typically a 1-2 time/day pooper. She is acting 100% normal in EVERY sense of the word. Eating, sleeping, playing, laughing, no temp…NOTHING to make me think she doesn’t feel well. WHAT’S THE DEAL? Of course the diapers don’t smell very pleasant…kind of rank really, like some nasty viruses we’ve had before. BUT there were always multiple symptoms when she had diarrhea viruses in the past.
Could it be food? If so, I have no idea what? She has been drinking milk for 2 months now…could she JUST be showing a reaction to it?
Is it worth taking her to the doctor for? Or will they just say “virus” and send me home???
Any thoughts?
August 25, 2007 at 10:42 am #41642AnonymousInactivethis happened to my son for no apparent reason, he was going 10 + times a day (not runny though) for 2 weeks, then i started probiotics the other day, and he is totally back to normal. make sure you get a bifido complex ( i got mine from kirkman labs) as babies do not benefit from acidopholus. If there is something out of wack in her system, the probiotics will bring her back to normal. sweetcheeks2007-08-25 10:43:32
August 25, 2007 at 1:35 pm #41657AnonymousInactiveHi Amy,
My boys’ poop always got weird like that when they were teething their molars… even before they showed any other signs of teething. They always had a bad smell to them too. Just an idea. I hope you can figure out what’s up!August 25, 2007 at 2:49 pm #41659AnonymousInactiveHeather – The babysitter said the same thing happened to her boys when they were teething. It’s good to know that it can happen BEFORE any other signs come because I had dismissed teething as a possibility since she doesn’t have any signs of molars yet! Either way I feel so bad for her and I hate that I can’t do anything about it!
I might start giving her probiotics again too…it’s worth a shot!!!
Thanks!
August 30, 2007 at 5:40 pm #41934AnonymousInactiveWe’re STILL having diarrhea poops!!! It’s been at least a week…maybe a little longer. UGH! The frequency isn’t as bad, but it’s still the rank, watery, yucky stuff. The sitter thought maybe it was too much juice, but that wasn’t it. Could it be corn? She eats that almost everyday?? (As of the last few weeks). Still worried it might be milk…still no signs of teeth…I’m at a loss!
We also started oranges too…could that be it???
HELP!

August 30, 2007 at 8:37 pm #41939AnonymousInactiveOranges could definitely be it. When we tried oranges with Kaelyn, they turned her urine acidic and it burned her pretty badly. The allergist said that many young children are intolerant of oranges and it can cause GI problems or urinary tract problems. She does fine with oranges now though.
September 1, 2007 at 4:46 pm #42022AnonymousInactiveOK, I am going to chalk this all up to a virus. One of the other little guys at daycare came down with the same diarrhea last week, but his subsided after only a few days. Sarah’s persisted…now ANOTHER little girl at daycare has the same thing. Sooo, my scientific theory is that Sarah had it, passed it on, and then GOT IT BACK…hence why she is still going. UGH! I’m glad it’s a 3 day weekend so they can all be away from each other and hopefully get better. Thanks for the replies!
