Janet, holding him is just what he needs. Alana was hospitalised with a UTI early on and her feeding reduced. She also ate ferociously for a few days when she got better. Hopefully Dylan will also feel like eating up big once he feels a little better.
I know its different but when Alana had gastro they reccomended just giving pedialyte for 24 hours to rest the system and then introduce formula afterwards once the system had a rest. Hopefully he will “tell you” when he is ready for food again.

That sounds a little better to me but at the same time, you can’t treat a virus with antibiotics. She also thinks that he has an ear infection so we’re continuing with the antibiotic anyway. His fever has come down without the motrin but he still is only eating pedalyte. My hope is that you’re all right and he’ll start eating when he’s ready.
He’s a bad eater anyway but he LOVES the pedialyte so we’re happy to give it to him. Yesterday he drank more liquid than he ever has in his life!! It was a record setting day at 30oz. We were very proud of him. I think he’s on the mend and will be feeling better by Monday.
Thanks as always for your support! Hope your little ones stay healthy and the winter germs GO AWAY.

April 18, 2007 at 5:54 pm #30914AnonymousInactiveMy little guy is doing much better now that he’s over the sickness. And
you’re all right…he’s been eating like mad the last few days and making
up for the loss.
However, our ped told us to get him out of daycare so that he can be well
long enough to grow. He’s a failure to thrive kiddo and just can’t catch
up. So, I took a leave of absence and that’s exactly what we’re gonna do.
Additionally, they want him to go to a lung doctor, and a nutritionist so
we can see how to get more nutrition in this guy so he’ll grow. At 7
months he’s only at 13lbs 12oz.
In addition to that their worried that he might have Cystic Fibrosis.
Anyone been tested for that??

There’s was a baby on the board that was tested for CF not too long ago. Hopefully her mom will post her experience. Her ID is myQTpie. Maybe you can pm her.
Good luck with everything. I hope the nutritionist has some good ideas about how to put some weight on him.

Q had pneumonia, and has been hospitalized four times… not to mention how often she gets sick and I mend her at home. I deffinitely notice a decrease in appetite during these times… some days, she won’t take anything but maybe 4 ounces in a day when she is really feeling bad. And if it’s a stomach thing, I can bet she won’t eat very much for at least a few weeks to a month.
Quinn has had a Cystic Fibrosis test about two months back. It’s very painless and simple test at the lab. The only horrible thing is, you have to stay there for at least thirty minutes. For us, it was just a band with a circle that went around her arm and it made her sweat in that particular area while a strip of paper collected the sweat. The lab tech said that it was a fairly new way of doing the sweat tests, but it worked great. It only left a little red mark on her arm for two hours. Lucky for us, Quinn’s came back negative for CF… thank goodness!!! Hopefully the same will be for your son. Nutritionists are great for giving ideas on how to put on some weight. For us though, all traditional methods have failed except for the formula she is on now… however, I’m scared that it’s not doing it’s job anymore… well more like Quinn just has a sensitive stomach a goes through bouts of diarrhea and that does not help her with the weight gain department. We have pedi appointment today, so we will see where her weight is. Hopefully she has not lost.
I got the same thing from her doctors about not putting her in any daycares. They basically told me to keep her in the house as much as possible until she stops getting sick so often. They advised me not to take her to Walmart or anywhere that a whole lot of people will be. It’s been kinda hard, but it has worked out better. She has been fever free for almost two months. Such a difference!!!
I’m glad your son is feeling much better and eating more.
