Charla wrote: Well she slept a little better last nite but as far as the way she sounds…to me it sounds the same and she still has the retracted breathing and severe wheezing. She is only eating 1oz maybe every hour and she can’t hold that down very well. She may hold one down and then the next one she vomits it up because she coughs so hard she chokes and gags and then up it comes. I tried pedialyte but she won’t have anything to do with that. I am just at a loss. I don’t know what to do.
JMHO here but a baby that young who has RSV, is retracting, and wheezing should NOT be allowed to stay at home. She needs to be admitted!!!!! I’d take her to the ER now. Not to scare you but RSV in a child that young needs to be closely monitored. That way they can have a pulse ox on her to see if she us desatting. You can’t do that at home.*Jessica*2008-12-18 12:53:19
December 18, 2008 at 2:13 pm #59705AnonymousInactiveI agree. not to scare you, but pack her up and take her to the ER… If she is not significantly better having started antibiotics and getting nebs, then she needs to be closely monitored….
Hang in there! keep us updated…December 18, 2008 at 2:19 pm #59706AnonymousInactiveI also would pack her up and go to the er. Still saying prayers for you and keep us posted.
December 18, 2008 at 2:43 pm #59708AnonymousInactiveI am glad I came back to this, I agree with the PP, if she is having retractions and wheezing and she needs to be admitted….at LEAST overnight! they kept landen overnight- he was retracting pretty bad. They had to temporarily suction him with a tube down his throat to get a lot of that mucous out but he felt MUCH better after that and then they did several rounds of breathing treatments in their care to make sure he responded well to them. Those breathing treatments will start to knock that junk out. I am very sorry you are going through this, it is SO scary!
December 18, 2008 at 3:18 pm #59715AnonymousInactivei’m all for taking her back in, too. i don’t think i would even be able to sleep with a child that young that was that sick. i would probably be sitting up all night holding her in my rocking chair and checking on her breathing.
December 18, 2008 at 4:11 pm #59716AnonymousInactiveI agree with all of you! The nurse at the doctors office just actually called me to check on her and I told her that I have seen no improvement and she wants to talk to the doc. So I am waiting on her to call me back. It makes me feel better that they actually call to check. But whatever they say I will take her to the ER if they don’t want to do anything more because its just not worth the risk.
December 18, 2008 at 6:06 pm #59720AnonymousInactivegood luck and let us know what happens….
