She weighs 9 pounds but she is on solutabs
I’m not feeling well, I started my period and my milk production is down. Not sure I can keep this up if I don’t start seeing her get better. Help!!!!!!
August 14, 2013 at 5:41 pm #72558hellbenntKeymasterok so what day are you again w/ the TED and meds?
how are poops?
I might switch from the solutabs! the aspertame and other inactive ingredients might not be good?
Pediatric Dosing for Lansoprazole (Prevacid®)
Dosing dependent on age & weight
Age Dose per day (mg/kg/dose)
< 3 months 1.5 to 1.75 mg/kg three times per day
3-6 months 1.25 to 1.5 mg/kg three times per day
ok so 9lbs – let’s say 4kilos(could round up to 4.1 but let’s stick w/ 4 kilos)
let’s say 3 months
I’ll calculate for the highest at 3 months which is the same for under 3 months – 1.5mgs per kg
1.5 x 4 = 6
that’s 6mgs a dose
so that’s 18mgs per day
you’re giving 15mgs
you could increase it – not sure how to make it exact?
buy capsules and open them up & if there’s a little tablet in w/ the beads, you remove that
you give the beads on an empty stomach
you give the beads w/ a tsp of applesauce (I’d do pears, since you’re eating pears in your diet) – you give w/ your finger & wash the beads down w/ a syringe of water
then you follow w/ a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later
or, you stick w/ the solutabs…
August 15, 2013 at 12:33 am #72560AnonymousInactiveToday is day 9 on TED and day 11 on Prevacid. Up until about 5 weeks old her poops were seedy yellow as she was getting breast milk and two bottles a day of Neocate milk based formula as directed from the NICU. I stopped the formula and eliminated dairy from my diet because she was showing the beginning of reflux symptoms. After that her poops turned from seedy yellow to more on the watery side, they are greenish brown and she goes every few days. She used to go several times a day when it was yellow color. there has been No change with her poops since TED or meds.
Since starting the meds and TED, I have noticed that she has less gas now and seems like less gas pains. I have also noticed her cradle cap seems like it is clearing up. She has gone from all bad feedings to having a few good feedings now where she doesn’t cry although she is usually sleepy during those. These are minor improvements as she still does the suck, swallow, scream routine during the majority of her feedings.
We have been giving her half a solutab every 12 hours. We give in a syringe with water then feed 30 min later. Is this right? With the Prevacid you are referring to, is that OTC? What if she can’t take solid foods yet? Is there a different medication you think we should look into?
I talked to the GI specialist today and he said he thought we should give everything 3 weeks as he said sometimes the symptoms can take this long to clear up. I’m just afraid because we are getting close to the 2 week mark and I think I’ll lose my mind if she isn’t better at that point.
August 15, 2013 at 7:02 pm #72562hellbenntKeymasterlet’s see…
7.5 x 3 = 22.5
this is higher than 18
ok what if you split the solutabs into 4 pieces?
that’s 3.75mgs a piece
3.75
so you could add a 3rd dose of 3.75…
just a thought…adding in a third dose…
and your dr is right, give it 3 weeks…it IS good news that the cradle cap seems like it’s clearing up & that the gas has stopped! what does erin write about poop? I think the poop can take the full 3 weeks…
as for solids- a teaspoon of pear should be ok- I think you can give the beads w/ pedialyte, too
OTC w/ applesauce, pedialyte, etc:

August 16, 2013 at 5:50 pm #72563AnonymousInactiveThank you, I will check out the med dosing. I have a setback, just realized the vitamins I take every day have soy. I discovered this last night and went out this morning to buy new ones. I’m wondering if this was part of the problem. My son was VERY sensitive to soy. The good news is I’m still keeping to TED. I’ll keep you posted, thanks for everything!
August 18, 2013 at 1:00 am #72564AnonymousInactiveQuestion : I’ve been on TED 12 days and I personally have started to notice painful heartburn which I normally don’t have. What in this diet could cause that and is it causing the reflux with my baby? When you did TED do you remember this happening to you?
Thanks!
August 19, 2013 at 1:45 pm #72567hellbenntKeymasteryour vitamins? have you added any supplements? these things can give me heartburn…
stick with the diet & take notes – see if poop is clearing up?if after a few days of soy-free (your vitamins) things still aren’t where you’d like them to be: cut out the rice (just for a few days) & see if anything changes/improves. if not, then cut out the meat (lamb & turkey), etc…you’re doing a FABULOUS JOB!!August 22, 2013 at 12:37 am #72574AnonymousInactiveOk I need more help or encouragement. My daughter has been feeding worse and worse despite the TED for 15 days and the increased dose of Prevacid for 3 days (per the suggestion to give 18 mg). The strange thing is that everything else seems better… Her skin is clear, she only cries when eating, she is not gassy, and her poop is just starting to look better. I’m going to stop eating turkey for a few days but I really don’t know what to do next and why everything seems better except her reflux. Thanks for your help, I’m feeling so down.
August 25, 2013 at 11:08 am #72584AnonymousInactiveStill waiting for help… Are you there Laura?
August 25, 2013 at 3:24 pm #72585hellbenntKeymasterso weird! I thought I answered. I’m sorry.
Ok well play w/ the dosing – amounts & time
Add in Zantac, too – I was able to space the Zantac & Prevacid 2hrs, but it *should* be 4 hrs- you can play w/ this, too.
She sounds better! For crying when eating, try giving some my lanta cherry supreme before a feed. Ask dr about carafate. This is a band-aid solution- it’s a prescription strength coating- used for ulcers, but it coats the esophagus to allow it to heal…
Also: look into slippery elm. This is more ‘natural’ remedy that also helps coat/soothe esophagus.
Your baby is doing much better! You’re on the last stretch!
Try cutting out rice. Just for four or five days…
August 26, 2013 at 12:22 am #72587AnonymousInactiveThanks so much! We tried a full pill in the AM with the quarter pill in the evening and that didn’t help. I can try three times a day but I struggle administering the meds so my husband usually does it before/after he is at work. I can definitely add in the Zantac. I will try the additional meds you have mentioned. Thank you for providing those options!
I stopped the turkey because my son had a protein intolerance (not just milk but animal proteins) so I thought it may be hereditary. It’s been 5 days now and no improvement. I will go ahead and try stopping the rice next and see what happens.
I have also ordered samples of Neocate. I plan to keep pumping in case it doesn’t work but plan to try Neocate if the TED just doesn’t help her. Do you think this is a good plan?
Thanks! I wish this would just be better already! I’m starving and I’ve lost 16 pounds in 19 days on the TED. I also can’t stand seeing her in pain while she is eating and would do anything to make this go away!

August 26, 2013 at 9:57 am #72588hellbenntKeymasterI would play w/ meds
I think diet is working!pain while eating doesn’t sound like it’s the ‘food’ itself!food reactions would be painful gas, smelly gas, and you’d see skin issues and poop issuesthe eating now can be that esophogus is irritated – thus the mylanta cherry supreme and/or the carafate and/or slippery elmthe refluxing now needs to be addressed by medsso: hang in there!I personally don’t think you need to go to neocate, based on what you’re telling me…PLEASE read & re-read posts by Erinntxdo a search and go BACK 6 months and OLDER using her usernameYOU CAN and you ARE! doing this!!lauraAugust 26, 2013 at 8:11 pm #72589AnonymousInactiveThanks I will read the posts… I tried copy and paste the user name and did last six mo and year and can’t find anything… Sorry to be such a pest.ngarcia2013-08-26 20:33:15
August 26, 2013 at 9:35 pm #72590hellbenntKeymastera google search for pediatric slippery elm dosing:
Not sure the link will work, but you get the idea
As for Erin : look in TED forum, I believe I’ve stickied one of her posts – you can see her name there – maybe it’s one (1) ‘n?’
I’m on my ph, otherwise I’d do it…
August 26, 2013 at 10:49 pm #72591AnonymousInactiveThank you, I did manage to find the slippery elm on my own. Sorry about that! I did find Erin and you had it correct – two names, but still nothing comes up in the search. I will try again in just a moment.
I don’t feel like things are better 🙁
Today my daughter could only eat a half ounce at a time and she only took in 15 ounces, it’s been horrible.
I have sent a message to the GI Specialist for Carafate and I also emailed Mylanta to see where I could buy the cherry Mylanta supreme. I will also be checking into where I can find the slippery elm. I just don’t understand why her feeding problems continue to get worse when other problems seem to be clearing up. I feel like I can’t take it anymore.
