Dr. Rosen is who I contacted. But we are being seen by her or another doctor in the CADD clinic, not motility. Due to his feeding issues she thought the CADD clinic was a better fit, but I guess they overlap with the reflux part. What did you have to do with the insurance? I am actually in the process of changing insurance carriers adn I think it actually may be one that they participate in.

Our local GI called in the referral to the clinic out of town and got the ball rolling that way. From there the hospital on the other end worked their tails off to get the testing all approved.
I did get several denial letters saying our ins. co. would not cover it but every time I got one, I called the scheduling nurse and she worked on it.
After a few weeks all got fixed and we had our dates.
The testing hospital did ALOT of the work for us. All I had to do was call and say I got denial letters.

I am going because I do not like the GI and he is nto doign what needs to be done. So I need to get him to do the referral and I don’t think he is going to be too happy about it. Just wondering how to approach it. If I can change insurance in time I might be able to avoid it all…
December 30, 2008 at 11:03 pm #59949AnonymousInactiveI hope you can work something out with your GI beacuse most insurance will not approve anyhting without the referral from the doctor.
Our pediatrician actually made the referral for us because the new GI did not think it was necessary to see a motility specialist. My pediatritian believed in me and helped us out!.good luck!December 31, 2008 at 12:45 pm #59956AnonymousInactiveGianna wrote:

We LOVE our GI and he was more than willing to send us for further testing.
The tests we had done were not available here so the ins co covered them.
We did get approval for a gastric emptying scan which we had already had done at home. The motility hospital wanted to run there own test so they coudl make sure it was done properly though. Not sure how they got that one pushed through, but hey did.
Is there another GI in the same practice you could see and possibly get the referal from them???
December 31, 2008 at 12:57 pm #59957AnonymousInactivea little off topic, but we are going to boston childrens in feb. i’ll let you know what i think, but we are going to the cp/ortho docs, not gi….
i would still do the ph for now but persue the bch docs and get in as soon as you can….good luck!!!December 31, 2008 at 1:21 pm #59958AnonymousInactiveNo, there is no other, but if it is a regular referral, my pediatrican can do it, but if it is considered a second opinio, the GI has to do it. I believe he would give me the referral out of ethical obligation, but if there was any aruging to be done on my behalf to get it approved wiht the insurance co, I doubt he would bother. We’ll see, I am lookign at changing to a PPO instead of an HMO which seem to be less troublesome when goign out of network. I’ll find a way!!!
December 31, 2008 at 1:23 pm #59959AnonymousInactivePlease let me know how it goes with Boston – how long did it take you to get in?? Ironically enough, I had to cancel the pH probe becuase my son has a cold adn an ear infection adn is on antibiotics. I guess it wasn’t meant to be right now, but I should find out when my appt is next week, so I am going to wait to get the date before I reschedule the probe.
December 31, 2008 at 2:09 pm #59961AnonymousInactiveFor us, I called a week ago and we are going Feb 25th. I would think, though, if you can send the records and they want the tests, you could get the tests scheduled prior to the appt so at the appt you are going over results andplan of action? Try to get on the phone with a nurse, or the dr’s assistant if possible once the referral is in and just tell your story. We have had a lot of success with this approach at other specialists to get the tests first if it doesn’t have to be done by the doc so not to delay plan of action, etc…
I will def post how it goes…good luck!!! -
