The doctor has just recommended that we have a PH probe while my 7-week-old daughter is on Prevacid and Pepcid – to see how well these medications are controlling the acid. Is this common or a good idea to test the acid while on medications? If possible, I would rather not have to take my daughter off of the medications for 10 days in order to do the test. (she would be in too much pain…)
What happens if the PH probe does not have high acid, but she is still exhibiting the symptoms of acid? Thanks.
10 days!! wow we only did 5 days. Yes this is not uncommon. it might be a good idea just to make sure the meds are actually helping her.
Is she vomiting a lot? or is it silent reflux? you could try mylanta cherry supreme if the acid still making her uncomfortable. for my experince kendra got pretty upset just by having the milk come up her throat and when she vomited. i don’t know if it was the actual acid pain or the event itself.
Our GI refused to do a probe off meds b/c of Hailey’s feeding aversion, and said that if he agreed to anything it would be a probe on meds. We did an endoscopy in which everything looked good while she’d been on her meds for a while, and our doc felt that meant that the meds were working, and then refused to do the probe.
