I’ve searched and can’t find much about pepcid complete except that people like to use it instead of zantac. What is the dosing? I am thinking of giving 1/2 tablet which would be 7.5mg. The dr. was giving her 15mg of zantac 3x/day so I figured that would be a safe dose. But I know it is a different active ingredient, although they are the same purpose.
Also, can we give the pepcid with the prilosec we will start tomorrow? Dr. said to quit the zantac w/ the prilosec.edit: actually , it is 5mg of active ingredient, forgot what that is called. along with calcium carbonate and magnesium something…area123 2008-04-14 21:19:12 April 14, 2008 at 8:20 pm #50334hellbenntKeymasteryes give the pepcid w/ the prilosec- just space the meds 4hrs apart…
pepcid ac is 1/2 a tablet dissolved in waternot sure if this helps, as it’s the liquid form of pepcid, but:Pepsid dose (liquid): 8th post down: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9295&PN=2April 14, 2008 at 9:20 pm #50343AnonymousInactivethanks.
The liquid dose is a different mg, like 3mg for an 11lb baby in that pharmicists example, and only once per day.How many times per day can we give the pepcid complete tablets? We were giving zantac 3x/day about 5mg each time.April 14, 2008 at 10:35 pm #50351AnonymousInactiveI don’t think you’d want to exceed 1/2 tablet a day. but I see no reason you can’t do 1/4 tablet at a time if you think 2 seperate doses would be better than 1. Just make sure you space it 4 hrs from the PPI (the prilosec that was prescribed).
To mix up the tablet: I take 1/2 tablet and put it in a little tupperware cup. Then I microwave some water for 30 secs in a glass and suck 1 tsp out with a medicine dropper and drop it on top of the tablet then let it dissolve. sometimes it requires a little crushing with a spoon so there are no chunks left. Then I suck the berry liquid back up with the medicine dropper (should still be 1 tsp of liquid) and dose it.HTH!!April 14, 2008 at 11:35 pm #50355AnonymousInactiveok, I did the half tab right before mommy fed her. she seemed to sleep good for 2-3 hours after, although pretty restless & fussy since waking. we’ll see how it goes tonight. how long do the tabs usually work?
I’m guessing the drug in pepcid is stronger than zantac, cause she was taking 15mg/day of that.will we eventually not need it when the prilosec kicks in?thanksarea1232008-04-14 23:39:38
April 15, 2008 at 9:59 am #50362AnonymousInactivemy guess is that she’s really uncomfy (and probably will be) until the prilosec kicks in. Nothing worked well on Landen (like zantac or mylanta) until his PPI was working really good. We would use the pepcid complete at bedtime (still do actually) for breakthrough acid and he’d sleep a good 4-5 hr stretch (that was a miracle for him). I think things will go better when the PPI is working and then the zantac or pepcid complete- whichever you are using- will work well hand in hand with the PPI.
April 15, 2008 at 10:57 am #50363AnonymousInactiveDefinitely second what Jill said. My ds is on Prevacid and the GI will not increase his dose until he does a scope (Friday) on him. So until after the scope we are stuck with a Prevacid dose lower than he needs. We do the Prevacid during the day and Pepcid complete at bedtime. This combo seems to be working well. The Pepcid complete definitely tastes (LOL) better than the NASTY Zantac! Nicholas has started sleeping for 6 hour stretches after starting the Pepcid, BUT has been on the Prevacid for a couple months. It will take at least 2 weeks for the Prilosec to fully “kick in”.
April 15, 2008 at 11:29 am #50364AnonymousInactiveThanks Jill.
She actually slept descent all night woke up a few times to feed. maybe the pepcid really helped. My wife thinks she just slept good becasue she was worn out from fussing all day. We’ll see how it goes tonight, she usually has a very bad night followed by a descent night. On a good note, I finally found a pharmacy who knows how to compound the prilosec. Well, at least he seemed to know, he even told me that he can’t mix more than 14 days cause it will destabilize so I think that is a good sign. I didn’t ask how he mixes it but he seemed very knowledgable and was the only one out of about 30 pharmacies around here that even knew how to do it. every other pharmacists said they couldn’t/wouldn’t do it.April 15, 2008 at 2:15 pm #50367AnonymousInactivetechnically the pepcid complete is to be given only every 24hrs (that is in adults) I am not sure about in children as they do metabolize the meds quicker. But I can say from personal experience that the pepcid complete works immediately for me. and I usually don’t have to or need to take another one until the next day if even then.
April 15, 2008 at 4:54 pm #50370AnonymousInactiveOk, dr. said to give the Prilosec 2x/day. I’m not sure of the mg dosage but she says to start with 2ml and go up to 8ml increasing 1ml every 48 hours until we find what works.
What is a good schedule to use w/ the prilosec/pepcid combo? Should we give prilosec in the early am, then again around 5ish and maybe give the pepcid around 9pm before bed? Or should we give her a dose of something in the middle of the night?Does anybody know what the mg does would be? How much to pharmacies usually compound per ml?thanks for all the replies. I think she had another good day, I’ll find out when I get home for sure. Maybe the pepcid will get her through until the prilosec kicks in.April 15, 2008 at 6:58 pm #50382hellbenntKeymasterthe bottle should say it? like the zantac bottle says 15mg/ml
if the bottle doesn’t say it, call the pharmacy…April 16, 2008 at 12:17 am #50410AnonymousInactiveok, I see it. 2mg/ml & up to 8ml 2x/day. We start w/ 2ml & go up. I guess taht works out to 8-32mg/day.
She is 5kg so from the chart she needs 15mg/day, so about 8ml. Now the question is, do we follow the dr 2x/day or split it up 3x?Also, even 2ml is a lot of that to give a 2month old & it is very nasty. Is there a better way to give it?thanksApril 16, 2008 at 6:00 pm #50445hellbenntKeymasteruse a skinny 1ml syringe & squirt in the back of the mouth- go in deep along the inside of the cheek-
squirt a bit on one side, slide/transfer syringe over to other side- back & forth until the 1ml is given- switching back & forth to ‘surprise’ baby…but definitely deep inside along cheek… -
