Well Cooper has been really fussy for many nights, I can’t remember how many now. He started screaming like before his reflux was controlled with meds. I noticed that he was pulling on his ear, fussy during feeds and of course not sleeping well. Otherwise he was happy. DH just thought he was teething as we are in the heat of that as well, 2 down I assume 2 more to come in the next few weeks. Anyway I let DH talk me out of going to the doc on Sunday, but decided that I wasn’t letting him or myself talk me out of it today. We went in and indeed we do have an ear infection. I am thankful it isn’t a double one, but gosh… I wonder how long it has been going on….. I gave him his first dose of amoxicillin and some motrin and he is napping. We are to call on Weds if he isn’t sleeping better by tomorrow night. I feel so bad that I didn’t take him yesterday, but I feel better knowing that I had the mommy instinct that something was wrong… I just really hope that this doesn’t start being a common occurance.
July 23, 2007 at 1:39 pm #39748AnonymousInactiveOh I’m sorry to hear that! I guess it’s a relief that his weird sleeping lately and other things have an answer now! I also hope for you that this doesn’t turn into a chronic thing. Fingers crossed that this is his ONLY ear infection!!! Hope he feels better soon!! Always trust those mommy instincts!!!
July 23, 2007 at 1:50 pm #39750AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear Cooper has an ear infection! Those things are so miserable. I hope it clears up soon & he gets feeling better.
July 23, 2007 at 2:27 pm #39753AnonymousInactiveUghh! Caden had one a month or so ago, and it brought his reflux back! He had actually gone for awhile without ANY reflux until the ear infection, and then we were back to square one.
Anyway, for us the amoxicillin didn’t do a thing! We had to go with Omnicef, and that cleared his up. I hope the first antibiotic works for Cooper.Caden hasn’t had another one yet, so I’m hopeful that it won’t be a recurring problem. Hopefully Cooper will be the same way.Good luck!July 23, 2007 at 3:23 pm #39763AnonymousInactiveohh i am so sorry! they stink!! but isnt it awsome how “mommy instinct” really does work?! hopefully he wont have another one for a while! shane has only had two thusfar and he is 13 mos. i consider that pretty good! soo.. theirs hope that cooper wont have to keep getting them now. and i hope the amoxicillin helps! it didnt help us either, and shane is allergic to it ! omnicef does work much better.. but the 2nd time we had to get the shot, when the omnicef didnt even work.
well hopefully like emily said it wont be a recurring problem for cooper either! hope he feels better soon!July 23, 2007 at 4:07 pm #39768AnonymousInactiveYucky. I’m not looking forward to Kate’s first ear infection but it’s inevitable at some point I’m sure I hope Cooper keeps sleeping well and isn’t too uncomfortable and that it goes away super-duper fast!!!!It really stinks that reflux comes back like the plague when an illness hits or teething or shots…..Geez!!!! We never get a break!!! It’s always one of them it seems I hope he feels better!
July 23, 2007 at 4:32 pm #39773AnonymousInactiveAwww….poor little guy. Mommies definitley know best. I hope the antibiotic clears it right up and he’s feeling better soon.
July 24, 2007 at 5:29 am #39792AnonymousInactivePoor little Cooper. Hopefully it will clear up soon. (BTW you are not the only mommy to wait to go to the Dr….Alana had a double ear infection and hadn’t been sleeping well for a week…naughty mummy!). At least it explains why things have been unsettled…and the ears will get better so everything else will to!
July 24, 2007 at 8:19 pm #39824AnonymousInactiveOh Yuck! I hate ear infections, and I hope that this is Cooper’s only one! Those things are so tricky. when they act so fussy, it’s so hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. But I”m glad that you have it figured out, and hopefully, he will get better soon.
July 26, 2007 at 12:10 pm #39891AnonymousInactiveWell we had to change antibiotics, we are now on day 2 of Zithromax, luckily I only give it once a day for 5 days total so we should be done on Sunday. He slept much better yesterday and actually took a nap this a.m. without being held. Luckily my mom came up on Monday (she is 6hrs away) to visit and just left this a.m. so I did have some help during the day. I don’t bother her at night so that she can help during the day. But hopefully the zithromax will do the trick.
July 26, 2007 at 1:59 pm #39899AnonymousInactiveYes, hopefully Zithromax will work for you. I don’t know what’s up with the Amoxicillian, but it sure seems like it isn’t working well for anyone these days. It worked great for Ben’s first infection, but no luck after that.
July 26, 2007 at 2:04 pm #39901AnonymousInactiveohhh, why did you have to switch? and i know amoxicillin (sp?) doesnt really help too much with ear infections.. i keep hearing that as well.. but i didnt want to get you nervous before you tried it! sorry to hear that though.. hopefully the zithromax will help! it really is a good antibioitic. 😉
July 26, 2007 at 3:26 pm #39906AnonymousInactiveAmoxicillin didn’t do a thing for Caden either. From what I understand, it has been used for so long and improperly (people not finishing the medication) that now the bugs that cause ear infections are resistant to it. I’m going to just go ahead and ask for something different if Caden gets another ear infection, because we wasted 3 days waiting for that to work and had to ultimately go to Omnicef (which did clear it up completely).
Good luck!July 27, 2007 at 7:22 am #39944AnonymousInactiveLauren,
We switched b/c of the doc. She had me call her on Weds and give her an update which showed no improvement. She only works M-W-F so i guess she didn’t want to wait until today on the Amox. I am supposed to call today if not better as well, but things are much better so I will not be calling. Our last day of Zithromax is Sunday so if things go down hill I will call her on Monday, but lets all keep our fingers crossed.July 27, 2007 at 4:50 pm #39981AnonymousInactiveZithromax always does the trick for my kids! I hope it does for Cooper as well.
