Just wondering if anyone has done this, or if anyone was advised to try this? Is it safe? I really want to try adding some flax seed oil to Hailey’s bottles…I’ve heard it can help with constipation, and since we’re now taking NO SOLIDS at all, it has to go in the bottle. Is this dangerous? I’m concerned about aspiration.
If she is refluxing out of control, I wouldn’t try it. I also had read about aspiration and oil. Has she ever aspirated before? I know docs will suggest different oils with slow gaining or no gaining babies. My friends dd had a heart issue that kept her from gaining and she did veggie oil in her bottles (yuck!).
I did try it when Marisa was really constipated – but it only made her
puke more. Dr. Sears highly recommends flax oil in bottle (or expressed
BM) but that’s not taking reflux into account. I think it works better
mixed into cereal but since I know you said she isn’t taking solids…
Sorry – wish had a better answer for you.
Formula itself has oil in it. Just make sure it’s completely blended. We occationally added 1 tsp of canola oil to Hailey’s bottles. I did it rarely because she was funny about the taste of things. I know other moms who did this and their kids noticed no difference whatsoever.
Be careful – since she already resists bottles, if she hates the taste/txture of it she may become even more resistant (my oldest did when we tried to add either oil or karo syrup.) Once they get suspicous of the bottles, it’s hard to get them to relax again.
