Kaden really seems to not like tummy time. He only tolerates it for a few short minutes, then he is crying and wants to go onto his back. I have been reading on websites how by now, age wise, he should be able to hold his head up steadily. He can hold his head up when we are holding him, but he is still bobbly when he does it. Some times are steadier than others. Should I be concerned? Do I push tummy time even though he doesn’t seem to like it?
I would figure that the reflux makes being on his belly uncomfortable. We are going to the peds next week for his 4 month needles and will ask then, I am sure he is developing fine. Just looking for reassurance I guess.By this time with my other 3 kids, they had all started cereal, and I know that one of the milestones to feeding kids cereal by mouth, is they need to be able to hold their heads unsupported. And he can, he is just not graceful. And another question, he does not seem to have MPSI, but when we are ready to start cereal, what would you recommend? Here in Canada we have Nestle, Beech Nut, Heinz (which smells like cardboard) and Milupa (the best in my opinion). Have any of you had more success with one over the other? We also have store brands, organic and non organic…………….Have a great day!July 22, 2008 at 10:18 am #54295AnonymousInactiveSarah hated tummy time as well! She would fuss and scream until we rolled her over. When she started rolling from her back to her belly on her own she would get SO mad because she couldn’t flip herself back over yet. I even remember having to go ‘rescue’ her in the middle of the night when she’d flip to her stomach and not be able to get back. Eventually once she was able to roll both ways on her own she got more used to being on her stomach and didn’t mind as much.
It’s funny how some reflux babies LOVE being on their bellies and others can’t stand it! I’d talk to your ped about it at his appointment and see if they have any concerns about the head control. Other than that I say just keep trying. Once his muscles become stronger he’ll like it better.July 22, 2008 at 11:54 am #54298AnonymousInactiveLanden also hated tummy time. I would just hold him on the couch facing me, belly to belly so he could hold his head up to see me face to face a lot that way. It helped him gain head and neck control and he didn’t feel like I was just lying him on the floor to fend for himself as he HATED to life flat on his tummy and we still acheived the same result. Otherwise, he will get it in time. Refluxers have a hard time being on their tummy.
As for the cereal, def go with Beech nut, it’s soy free!!July 22, 2008 at 2:39 pm #54300AnonymousInactiveAshlynn also HATED tummy time. She seemed to do better when I placed her on a boppy pillow so that her tummy was not completly on the floor. Ashlynn also was slower on gaining good head control, but she finally caught up on everything.( head control, seating up, crawling, and walking)
I blame that on sleeping in her swing until she was 5 months.
Another note everytime we did do tummy time the pressure from tummy time would cause her to reflux and back up came her formula. She stills does not like to sleep on her tummy.
And now she is my little spit fire!stcwatt2008-07-22 14:42:32

But once he could roll over on his own he was fine. His poor little head was so flat that I was concerned it would not round back out, but it did. I wouldn’t force it. I also would put him on my chest with me lying down belly to belly and he did better with that. I just did it about 30 min before a feed and not any sooner than 2.5 hrs after a feed or I ended up having to take a shower and wash my hair from spit up.

Now (Strangely after meds?) she seems to like it less and she does spit-up and we’re doing 30deg elevation instead for sleep.
October 11, 2008 at 2:08 pm #57600hellbenntKeymasterI’m not sue there’s a rush to start cereal at 4 months?
It seems that there are lots of babies here who didn’t start solids until 6 months and there are some who started even later…not saying you *shouldn’t* start when the ped tells you to, but just saying that there doesn’t seem to be any particular rush…October 14, 2008 at 4:07 pm #57699AnonymousInactiveMy son only slept on his back for the first month. He hated sleeping on his back, I would swaddle him, do anything to get him to go down on his back. Finally my grandmother told me to put him on his stomach, of course I was nervous about sids, but I did it and now, it is the only way he will sleep. I bought “angelsounds” to go under his mattress, so if he did sufficate, an alarm would go off after a few seconds without him breathing.
Just do what he feels comfortable doing. I never read those books that told me where my baby should be developmentally…he will get there, some stuff he is ahead on and some stuff he is behind on. I think he is perfect.Just figure, some of us sleep on our sides, stomachs, or backs.AJ3032008-10-14 16:09:06
