Susan,
Well, at least she got his diet right! I have to give you some quick advice here – with the throwing up, that is normal on Neocate only diet at first. It is SO thin and it takes them a while to get used to it. He will adjust! But trust me, it is much less painful for him and it will heal his poor GI system…give him time…he will improve on Neocate only, then you can slooowly add in solids in due time!! Believe me on this!!!Also, the zegerid dose is low…but I sent you all of our leftover 40mg zegerid packs (hope you get it today ) so you can always “try” the marci-kids dose. 🙂jilly782008-03-27 08:40:19
March 27, 2008 at 8:56 am #49433AnonymousInactive**Giggling** @ trying the Marci-kids dose. :-” My ped. had NO idea that the dose she “brought him up to” was actually the dose he’d already been on because of the dosing calculator. Every time she “increases” his medication I go and see what the “right” dose should be.
I’m so glad to hear that the GI is getting things taken care of for you!!!March 27, 2008 at 11:45 am #49443AnonymousInactiveYayyy! Glad you’re finally getting somewhere!
**HUGS**HUGS**March 27, 2008 at 2:55 pm #49468AnonymousInactiveThe GI sounds pretty good. Hopefully she’ll increase the Zegerid dose too, and she checks into the marcikids info. I think it’s a great idea to do the Neocate only – that will give his system a chance to heal instead of being constantly irritated by foods it is unable to handle yet.
Hang in there – my daughter’s projectile vomiting stopped shortly after switching to Neocate. Sure she still spit up, but not the forceful, stomach emptying kind of vomiting. And she was noticably more comfortable while eating.
March 28, 2008 at 12:21 pm #49509AnonymousInactiveJust some words of support. My little guy developed a bottle aversion due to being untreated for months and then treated with a too low dose of Prevacid for so long. By 7 months he completely quit drinking anything from a bottle except for one bottle that he’d take on his way off to sleep for the night, and he also refused any sippy cups. So, I spoon fed him expressed breast milk or formula for months. It was hard and I hated it but it kept him alive. It helped to feed him in a reclining bouncy seat instead of a high chair.
Oh, and Myles was also a huge puker. It was very discouraging to spend so much time spoon feeding him only to have him puke it all up afterwards. Somehow he managed to grow and thankfully he finally outgrew it.Hang in there. I hope the Zegerid helps and/or the doc raises his dose if needed.March 28, 2008 at 1:36 pm #49510AnonymousInactivethanks, Christine. i am afraid of the bottle aversion bc i know it is happening as he takes to the spoon more readily. can u tell me what spoon u used? the liquid spills if it is too much and the tiny spoons don’t hold enough. yes, seeing all that vomit afterwards stinks.
thank u for ur words, what a great Mom u r. i know that i’ll do what i have to do to keep Cole alive and growing. 🙂March 28, 2008 at 4:25 pm #49526AnonymousInactiveThanks Sheri,
he already seems to be spitting less, thankfully. it bugs when he refluxes his med though. ugh.March 28, 2008 at 5:05 pm #49532AnonymousInactiveJust talking… I hope that I didn’t make an error by switching to Zegerid w/o giving the PRev solutabs more time. The timing was just tough for us… Cole was on them for 13 days which during I switched him to Neocate a week after I started solutab. My husband says that I am switching too much.
I will stick to Zegerid for 6 weeks at least if Cole doesn’t have any bad reactions to it. I just felt that we were on prevacid so long.March 28, 2008 at 5:36 pm #49534AnonymousInactiveGood luck with the Zegerid. Lots of babies do great on it! I’m so glad it reached you! I tried to PM you but your box was full!! 🙂 Hang in there!!
