Well in 1 month Grant has only gained 11ozs! He’s only 12.15ozs and he’s 4.5months old. The dr. wasn’t to happy and she thinks it’s because he no longer gets rice in his bottle but the simply thick which has no cals. She also suggested we start solids like sweat potatoes since they are high in calories. I’m a bit torn about that. I don’t know what to do! We concintrate his formula to 24 cals an ounce and he eats 24zs a day. We see the GI speacialist on March 17th and we have a mod barium study on March 24th. I am so crushed about the weight, we work so hard to get him to eat and this feels like someone just ran over me w/ a truck. When the nurse read 12.15ozs I started to cry. I don’t know whatelse to do.

I won’t worry so much. I think he is about 5th percentile, has he been dropping percentiles? This is just my opinion but I won’t start solids early. Their stomachs are still immature and it may just add to his troubles (indigestion, gas, etc.).

How much did he weigh at birth? Sweet potatoes have like hardly any fat in it though, unless of course you butter it up. Really, breastmilk or formula should be the sole source of nutrition in 1 yr. What formula is he on? I think 24 oz is a good amount especially if you make it higher in cals. Could it be genetics? Are you and your DH tall/big or small? Maybe you can get him to drink more formula?

Hang in there….don’t worry too much! I know easier said than done.
