our 8 week old daughter has been on zantac and it’s nearly fully ineffective at this point. I’m using mylanta successfully but wondering what folks have done when trying to max out hte mylanta dosing. I had been giving it every 12 hours, but now want to try every 8 hours. She was awake with acid and screaming until 4:30 AM last night and we only have two more nights to go before we see the ped gi (I’m hoping for a zegerid rx from him on Wed). I know Laura wrote and said up to five times a day of 1 ml each time. Then I read on MArci kids to give 1/2 a teaspoon up to three times a day. So I’ve been giving half a teaspoon since it’s more and since I’ve only been giving it twice a day. She gets very loose stools, but they aren’t too bad.
Any thoughts? Anything else I can do in the interum along with mylanta? We’re doing all the sleeping upright, eating upright sorts of things already.

I remember how hard it was to wait for that first GI appointment. I would suggest doing more of what Laura said. When McKenzie was one month and we were waiting for her GI appt, my regular ped said 1-2 mls up to 4times a day. The reason I would say less amount, more often is because of how fast babies metabolize things…even though you are giving more…it might not work for long enough. Keep us updated on how the GI appointment goes. I haven’t posted in a while…are you just dairy free in your diet? I thought for a time it was dairy/soy/gluten and peanuts…did I make that up? (totally possible with my mommy brain!)

p.s. no Emily I don’t thin you’re making that up… I remember reading that as well in the past few wks-lol.

I’ve added everything back in (after having no more blood for three weeks) except for the dairy. My first chid had severe food issues and dairy was on his list and i had chronic plugged milk ducts with him for nearly 8 months until I took out dairy (so strange!) and swelled badly during my firs and second pregnancies until I took out dairy. So I’ve been dairy free since maybe month 8 of my pregnancy and she’s now two months old. I probably won’t add it in for a while, I’m terrified of the plugged ducts issue again.
lori– thanks! i know you know how it is to be tired…
Emily and Erin– thanks for the idea. I sort of started that last night, and will continue it tonight and tomorrow until our visit. Unfortunately, since the ppis don’t always work right away, I’ll probably have to continue the Mylanta for a while. It’s really helping, I wish I could give it before EVERY feeding. haha
