ok, we’ve been on it over 3 wks at 20 in am and 20 in pm, doing great!!! She still won’t show signs of hunger, but will take food (textured) without pain every 4-4.5 hrs. She will drink from her bottle, though she will not hold it herself. We get 2 good meals and 1 so so meal with about 20 ounces of isomil a day.
What do we do for middle of the day when the first dose of nexium has worn off but I don’t want to give the next dose???She takes it at 9:00 and again around 6:00, the 3 o clock hr she doesn’t fuss but will whimper a bit during her meal…nothing like before though so I’m happy and she is gaining….yeah!!! and babling more too.November 4, 2007 at 6:23 am #44958AnonymousInactiveThat is great news. Don’t worry about her not holding her bottle, I have been told by many moms that some babies just don’t do it. Cooper actually tried for the first time last night, but wasn’ successful. The Dr Brown’s bottles are hard for them to hold, I don’t know if that is what you are using or not. You may want to try giving her some Cherry Mylanta Supreme around 2pm to see if that helps with her 3pm feeding that way it is spaced 4 hrs from her next nexium dose. HTH.

My three babies never held their own bottle, even my first who was not a refluxer. Some babies never do, especially if you always hold them to feed them, rather than prop them with a bottle in a boucy seat or carseat. My kids all still got a bedtime bottle at 18 months and still didn’t hold that bottle!
I think Stacey’s idea of some Mylanta Cherry Supreme in the afternoon is a good idea. My son was on three doses of Prevacid, so we didn’t need anything else, but I think a lot of babies who aren’t on three doses need something extra.
Also, my son still was not a big eater even after finally being properly medicated. He had DGE so his appetite was small. He took only 15-16 ounces of formula or breast milk (I pumped) a day, plus some oatmeal and he gained just fine on that. Once he outgrew his DGE at 13 months his appetite and stomach capacity increased dramatically.
I’m glad to hear Adi’s doing better!November 4, 2007 at 2:26 pm #44968AnonymousInactiveGreat news! About the bottle holding, many feeding aversions kids don’t do it. Hailey just started at around 2 years old!

Alana never held her bottles. It wasn’t until she started with her straw cup that she was that interested and I must say I didn’t really encourage it to much…there is plenty of time for independence later on!
