I have probiotics from when I thought I had thrush. Can I give them the same way? I took some and then opened a capsule and let him suck some off of my finger. Does it matter what type I have?
January 30, 2013 at 3:51 pm #71563AnonymousInactiveThe supplement that I use is not specifically made for children but they have told me it is perfectly safe for babies. I assume that and kind of probiotics can be used for a baby. Mine too is in a capsule form and when Shiloh was an infant I opened the capsule up and mixed it with a little water and gave it with a dropper. But letting him suck it off your finger would work fine too.
As far as what type you use, the thing that really counts is if they work. I personally believe that the more strains of probiotics that are in a supplement, the better they will work. There are 13 strains in what I use. What kind do you have?

Beings that is what you have on hand, you can sure give em a try and see if they help. If not, then I’d try a supplement with more strains in it and also maybe some digestive enzymes.

February 5, 2013 at 12:21 pm #71608AnonymousInactiveWe go back to the doctor tomorrow, so I’ll have an accurate weight for the baby for Zantac dosing. Someone lent us another swing so I can start to sleep upstairs in my bed again (I was sleeping downstairs because he is so fussy but it’s gotten better when he sleeps in the swing all night). My ped (who I am most likely leaving) said I couldn’t dose him 3 times a day with the Zantac, but I’d like your opinions. Can I just give him his current amount divided by 3 instead of 2 and do it every 8 hours instead of every 12?
February 5, 2013 at 2:10 pm #71612hellbenntKeymasteryou can do 2 or 3 doses – no biggie- & they don’t have to be ‘equal’ doses- Let me know the weight when you have it & I’ll help more
February 6, 2013 at 5:39 pm #71629AnonymousInactive13 lbs. 3 oz. or 6 kg exactly.
February 6, 2013 at 7:45 pm #71631hellbenntKeymasterok so maximum zantac dose by wieght is 10 mgs per kilo –
do not just take my word on this- ask your pharmacist to please humour you and to look it up on his computer- there are 2 doses- one for ‘regular’ use and one for GERD
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1Zantac dosing- my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):
ok so maximum dose is 10 mgs per kilo
baby is 6 kilos
so 10 x 6 = 60
that’s 60 mgs of zantac for the day
but how can you get mgs when you have liquid that’s measured in mls?
well, look at your bottle.
it says 15mg/ml
this means for every 1 ml of liquid you give your baby, there’s 15 mgs of the medicine zantac in that 1ml
so to figure out how many mls the 60mg is, you divide by 15
so; 60 divided by 15 = 4
that’s 4 mls a day that your baby can have
you can divide this into 2 or 3 doses
you can make them ‘uneven’ doses
so, if let’s say evening is the worst, then give
1.5 mls in the morning, 1ml mid day & 2.5 mls in the evening
you can play around with the dosing, making sure to not go over 4mls total for the day of the zantac…

February 6, 2013 at 11:36 pm #71633AnonymousInactiveGreat, Laura, thank you! That’s the math I got as well so I know I’m doing it right!
February 7, 2013 at 7:47 am #71635hellbenntKeymasterglad to help!
in the meantime, research all you can so t hat you know what you’re next going to TELL your dr
zantac might just do the trick – make sure to increase it with every .5 to kilo wieght gain…
if you see that your baby seems to plateau on it, then you’ll be ready! you’ll know how/why to TELL dr about what comes next…
February 14, 2013 at 3:11 pm #71662AnonymousInactiveI just spoke on the phone with the doctor who will be giving us a second opinion. He said I wouldn’t have to transfer the files over from my pediatrician yet, but he is open to the idea of D being seen by an GI specialist. He said he doesn’t act like he knows everything, he is a general practitioner so he will refer us to someone else if he can’t answer something for us. He also said he doesn’t promise to prescribe anything, but he will listen to what we’ve tried and work with us on the problem.

March 2, 2013 at 1:02 pm #71741AnonymousInactiveWe’ve been doing okay on an increased Zantac dosage. So far today, though, he spit up on me after every feeding for a total of three times. His reflux is usually silent. He usually spits up MAYBE once a week. Any idea what’s going on?
March 3, 2013 at 4:52 pm #71743hellbenntKeymasterno idea- any changes in diet?
zantac doesn’t stop spit up (or cause it)
