April 11, 2013 at 12:52 pm #72022AnonymousInactiveLaura – just a question in regards to the Prevacid Solutab ingredients you listed – what other form is there of prevacid to give to infants (and not the compounded way since that loses it’s effectiveness, right?)
April 11, 2013 at 1:34 pm #72023hellbenntKeymasterFirst you need to check dose:Prevacid 101:
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1a compound CAN be made correctly! it’s just difficult to find people to cooperate (doctors/pharmacist)…you must TELL them how to do it..other forms of prevacid:capsuletabletYou must give on an empty stomach, give w/ whatever it is listed(apple sauce, etc) -and then have a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later…w/ applesauce, pedialyte, etc:

April 15, 2013 at 10:07 pm #72053AnonymousInactiveThe prevacid does seem to be helping with the reflux. He hadn’t pooped in 6 days and then finally pooped last night after lots of painful smelly gas all week. We had his pooped tested and it tested positive for blood. My pead is going to contact a GI tomorrow and we also have an appt next week with the pead GI. I have eliminated milk for a week and am starting on soy now. I am hoping that is all. What is your experience? Thanks for asking.
April 16, 2013 at 7:44 am #72054hellbenntKeymasterdo NOT let anyone make you quit breastfeeding!!
you can do this! read all you can!
my links rn’t working- just copy & pste the websites into your browser
Reasons a breastfeeding mother might think her baby is reacting to something in her milk:
*poop that is not ‘normal’ mustardy yellow, seedy breastfed baby poop
*mucous in poop; mucous can look like: snot, jelly, cottage cheese, stringy like the inside of a banana
*foul-smelling poop
*stinky, foul-smelling painful gas
*straining and grunting to poop and, when baby finally does poop, it’s soft
the TED takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CAN eat.
Research all you can! You are your baby’s best advocate!

Looking back I now know it was because his intestines were inflamed and rubbed raw. Probiotics coat the entire digestive tract and most babies don’t have probiotics fully built up until they are 3-6 months old. Also my son was on antibiotics and antibiotics not only kill the bad bacteria but the good which is our probiotics. Excess acid also kills probiotics. 🙁
It wasn’t until my boys were ages 2 and 4 that I learned about probiotics and also digestive enzymes. Giving them a supplement that contains both has helped them tremendously.
Some babies have a hard time making enough enzymes to properly break down their food. And so a supplement of them can help a lot.
