I’m new to this forum, and I’m so glad that I found it. At last people who will understand what I’m going through!!
My DS is 10 months old and was a preemie. He was diagnosed with reflux early on and I suspect a MSPI (I’m breastfeeding and if I have any dairy, even trace, he projectile vomits, but allergy testing was neg.). We finally went to see a GI specialist a couple months ago and he diagnosed him with delayed gastric emptying. He put him on erythromycin for it and took him off all of his other reflux meds. For about 2 weeks we did great, hardly any spit up at all. Since then it’s all gone down hill. The spit up started profusely again and the last two nights have just been hell. DS is up every couple of hours, crying in pain and thrashing around, etc. Tonight is already starting off bad…he’s been up crying already and he just went to bed an hour ago. I don’t know what else to do for him to help him be comfortable. I have some Zantac left over and I started giving that to him to see if it helps.I’m going to call the GI dr. again tomorrow. I just needed to vent to someone who would understand. I’m exhausted, frustrated and sad that my baby is not feeling well again. Not to mention that I’m so sick and tired of PUKE!!Thanks for listening! ANy advice is appreciated!!Valerierhesp1212 2009-06-30 10:20:12 June 30, 2009 at 3:10 pm #63129AnonymousInactiveUnfortunately, allergy testing is NOT accurate until atleast 2-3 years of age. There are a lot of false/negatives w/those tests. TED is a good way to find out what baby reacts to. There’s plenty of info on the TED forum. Maybe take a look.
Also, what meds has he been on? Only zantac? Marci-kids.com has alot of good info on meds and proper dosing. Also, plenty of info under the Intro Forum, 1st post Groupie Intro.I’m sure some others will be posting to help give more advice!Good Luck!ETA: In the meantime, you can also give mylanta cherry surpreme in 1mL incriments. If his stool becomes loose then back off on the amount given throughout the day(max 5mL/day). HTH!valentine4mommy2009-06-30 15:11:25
June 30, 2009 at 9:01 pm #63138hellbenntKeymasterhi & welcome! you’ve found a great place!
the key to all of this is RESEARCH and, of course, support!
http://www.marci-kids.com is at the FOREFRONT of research of PPI use and dosing in infants/todders. You might want to start there to see if PPI dose is ‘proper’ [if you have any left you might want to start it back up again and give along WITH the zantac…space the 2 meds 4hrs apart. Amber mentioned mylanta- use the kind, adult kind, that doesn’t have aluminum. this cvan be given wtih the zantac but space the mylanta 4hrs frpm the prevacid]
then, hop back here to learn HOW to get that proper dose, if need be, and what FORM of PPI and HOW to administer…
Prevacid 101(last post on the page): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1
unfortunately the majority of drs & pharmacists don’t know…babies metabolisms’ are much faster than adults, so the drugs work differently with them…
after medication, you might then want to look at diet…
I have a LOT MORE TO SAY! and most of it is here:Groupie Intro: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853
it’s looong, but PLEASE read/skim/scroll through it & refer back to it, as it TRULY will help you!
so glad you found us!

ps: when you get a moment, please go to the upper right-hand corner of this screen and click on ‘settings’ and from there you can edit your signature and let us know how old baby is, what formula or breastfeeding, MSPI or not, what meds and what doses and form of meds and how you’re administering-thanks!

That’s where I learned about the MSPI, which I definitely think DS has along wiht other sensativities. I just don’t know if I have it in me to do the TED, especially since he’s on so many solids now.
It appears that the last couple of nights were brought on by rice and barley. He has problems with these initially and after 3 months of being off of them I tried them this week. Apparently not a good idea!! He was off of them for 2 days and last night he slept like a dream. Who knows?DS was originally on Bethanechol and Zantac, which we had limited success with. When we saw the GI specialist and he was diagnosed with DGE he pulled him off his reflux meds and just had him on the erythromycin. It worked beautifully for about 1-2 weeks and then everything started gradually flaring back up to where he now is even refluxing up solid chunks of food and almost choking on them. I put a call into them yesterday and am still waiting to hear back from them. Planning on calling again this morning. I think they need to add reflux meds back in. -
