Hello all,
My name is Lisa and I am new here. My son Brycen, has GERD, and we were seeing a doctor in Dallas but I was not happy with the treatment. My son was diagnosed at only a few days of age and is currently on Prevacid.(He is now 6 y.o. and very small for his age) This doctor questioned me as to whether my son’s condition was more behavioral. I was furious. He has a diagnosis it wasn’t like i made it up. Anyway, his asthma doc has suggested we go to see Dr. An. Does anyone know anything about Dr. Jack An?
I am nervous now after this last experience.
Thank you for any suggestions!

I’d like to see them regurgitate digested food all day long and see how they like it. Kudos to you on sticking up for your son and looking for a new doc. I’m so sorry that your poor son has had to suffer for so long with this- SIX YEARS?! I really hope he can get some relief soon. Gerd is such a terrible disease. Good luck to you both.

He was our 3rd GI. Just took my 7 year old in to see him, apparently she has reflux too… he suprised me by actually playing with my kids. They got us in suprisingly fast when we were new patients. I hope your son gets some relief soon! let me know if you want the #.
Just something that I found interesting…. I couldn’t understand why my 7yo reflux was getting so bad and her asthma too.. He said that when they are this age and playing sports or being active, the stomach tightens and acts like a vaccuum sucking up the acid into the espohogus, giving them pain in the chest and shortness of breath. Wish the pulmonologist and allergist would have known that!
May 4, 2006 at 9:27 pm #7563AnonymousInactiveWe have an appt with Dr. An at Medical City on Thursday the 11th. I do hope they help. Brycen has been complaining lately of pain in his chest. I thought it was his asthma but his pulm.doc said he thought it was probably more reflux related.
He was on Zantac and Reglan until about 1 y.o. and then off meds for a couple of years because the docs at the time, I guess, didn’t believe the reflux diagnosis. He ended up back on Zantac and then eventually Prevacid.
Hopefully this new GI doc will help. The one we were seeing at Children’s in Dallas was not helping us. We will see!
May 4, 2006 at 10:39 pm #7567AnonymousInactiveLisa, please post again and let us know what he says. I don’t have a followup apt. for Regan until June. She is only on 15 mgs. of prevacid right now, but that can’t be enough. We are watching her diet and elevating her bed now, so things are better. Seems like with the exercise problems and stress with her baby sister having reflux, her reflux is getting aggrevated. Wish they could just be kids without any problems!
We saw someone at Childrens’ dallas too, after dd was in the hospital there. They didn’t know what they were doing. Good luck wiht the appointment!

Samantha sees Dr Argao in the same practice and we love him too. Samantha was admitted to Medical City last October and Dr An was the doctor on call the last week of her hospitilization. He was so nice to us and very patient, Samantha had just had her fundo and G-tube placed and after we went home, I had to call him several times and he never minded. I think that you will be really happy with him. Please let us know.

May 9, 2006 at 10:59 pm #7784AnonymousInactiveLisa~ Where do you live? We live west of Fort Worth.
May 10, 2006 at 7:59 am #7788AnonymousInactiveWe live East of Dallas, on Lake Ray Hubbard area. I am getting ready to take my other son to Cook Children’s in Ft. Worth for some other issues.
We aren’t that far from each other!
May 10, 2006 at 8:37 am #7791AnonymousInactiveWe use Cooks for almost all of her other doctors, we have had good luck with most of the doctors we have seen there. They are the ones that follow her cancer and nutropenia. We have seen quite a few docs at Cooks between my two kids, if you have any questions about Doctors there.
May 10, 2006 at 9:16 am #7792AnonymousInactiveWe are due to see Dr. Ryals at Cooks Pediatric Neurology at the end of June.
Have you heard of him?
May 31, 2006 at 4:24 pm #8897AnonymousInactiveWell, The EGD went well and there is no damage that they could see. Dr. An has added Carafate to the Prevacid which seems to be helping a ton.
We just love Dr. An. He is very nice and he actually seems to care about these little ones. I am glad we found him.
Hope all is well.
