Hi, I am the mother of a 4 month old DD. She has had reflux since she was a new born. We had to put her on Alimentum b/c she had the milk protein intollerence. She was not ok on that so the ped put her on Neocate. Which seems to be working. She was put on Zantac 1.5ml 2x a day. It seemed to stop working so she was put on prevacid. 30mg in the am and 15mg in the pm. She was still having trouble after a few weeks so the ped has asked me to give her 30mg 3x a day. AM, Afternoon and then before bed. Has anyone ever heard of such a high dose. I also started giving her cereal which is very constipating for her along with the Prevacid. She cries really hard in the middle of the night b/c I think the reflux is waking her up. I am stopping the cereal for now and am a little nervous about so much Prevacid in a 24hr. period. Any help would be great. I want my baby to be happy again and I am wondering if side affects of too much Prevacid can be constipation, stomach ache???? Please help…

August 15, 2008 at 8:22 am #55379AnonymousInactiveThe 90mg dose is very high. I have only seen 1 person on that high a dose and it was in the hospital and they were like 75yrs old!. I agree that they probably meant 10mg 3x/day I would call to clarify. Also have you been giving it right? You have to give it on an empty stomach and follow with a feeding 30-60 min later. If you haven’t been doing this that may be why it isn’t working. If your lo is on Neocate, I would stop the cereal We weren’t on Neocate and didn’t do cereal until our lo was 8-9 monhts old b/c it is so hard for them to digest.

I am going to go back to what we started with 15mg split 2x a day. So 7.5mg in the am and 7.5mg in the pm. I have noticed she has been getting up in the middle of the night screaming and swallowing when she used to sleep through the night? Have you ever heard of giving the full dose at bed time instead of throughout the day? Also I was not waiting a full 30min. before feeding her which I hear makes a big difference. I do really like my ped. She has been right on about everything except this makes me nervous. Thanks for the help

I agree that your LO’s pain could be her body trying to digest that cereal. Grains are so hard for them to digest. Neocate will do it’s job all by iteslf. i would remove the cereal and give Neocate the chance to do it’s “wonders”. It took us 3-4 weeks to see the full benefit.Good luck!August 15, 2008 at 8:03 pm #55400hellbenntKeymastertry 7.5 in the am & 15mg in the pm?
and I, too, vote for stopping w/ the cereal -
