This is probably a silly thing, but my daughter has never (to my knowledge) cried because she is hungry! In my experience (i have a 10 year old daughter, 2 nieces and 2 nephews!) babies usually ‘shout’ when they are hungry, but Eden cries the same for everything!!(unless she is in pain of course) Everytime she is crying, i have to go through the checklist! Does she need a breastfeed, nappy (diaper!) changing, winding, solids, just a cuddle?! Its not really a problem but i just wondered if anyone knows if this is just her personality or something to do with the reflux?! I feel like a terrible mum sometimes cause i feel i should be able to tell the difference between her cries at 6 months old, but i don’t think there is any difference!!

I know that Ashtyn had delayed gastric emptying when very young & she never ever cried for food as she just wasn’t hungry. Maybe her motility drug needs to be changed or her dose changed? Was she diagnosed with DGE?

No she hasn’t been diagnosed with DGE! They gave her motilium to stop her being so sick and make her tummy feel a bit better! Apparatly thats what they use it for in the UK! I don’t really know what ‘kind’ of motilium she’s on cause i wasn’t aware that there were different types but the bottle says 1mg/ml suspension!! If that helps!!
February 5, 2006 at 2:58 am #776AnonymousInactiveSorry! forgot to say that Eden has only been on Motilium since she was 4 and half months old! She has never cried because she is hungry since she was born!!
February 5, 2006 at 6:14 am #785AnonymousInactiveMotilium is given all throughout Europe for a ton of stuff, and motility is not the first reason; used to settle stomach etc etc. There is only one kind as Motilium is the commercial name… name of drug is Domperidone.
Matthew has never been hungry. No DGE for us, as we have tube fed him huge amounts in the past and his body was totally fine… our ped said he would not have handled it well otherwise. I think that Matthew was just really born with small appettite – it is called infantile anorexia or hyporexia or something like that… but that is MATTHEW. I saw eden gained really well the past 3 weeks, so hopefully she is finally getting a grip on hunger?

February 6, 2006 at 7:59 am #885AnonymousInactiveIt seems like A LOT of these refluxers never cry when they’re hungry…Hailey being one of them. She has never cried for food- EVER! I think it’s because they don’t want to eat, so they don’t ask for it. Even now, she doesn’t cry if she wants to eat, and she’s 8 months old.
February 6, 2006 at 8:19 am #887AnonymousInactiveShe actually eats really well (and has done since starting meds!), especially solids! Only she never tells me she wants food! Now i think about it, maybe she wasn’t hungry when she was very small, but i still fed her, and now she knows that she doesn’t have to cry to be fed!! What do you think?!
February 12, 2006 at 3:25 am #1374AnonymousInactiveI have actually started thinking that she may very well have DGE!! When she wakes up in the morning (after 10 hours sleep!!) She is really happy, and isn’t really bothered whether she is fed or not! Obviously i feed her, but she doesn’t cry for it! Maybe its because she doesn’t have any motilium at night, and her tummy still has food in it in the morning!!
