Hello Ladies.

Im melinda mommy of three wonderful handfuls 🙂

The youngest of which is my current dilemma. I’m pretty certain she has reflux. she is EXtremely fussy(screaming hours a day!!) Used to wake/eat every 3-5hrs now shes awake and eating little bits every 30-90min, when shes sreaming she often does the knees and legs pulled up arms thrown back and back arched scream, she drools ridiculously, coughs and swallows frequently, wet burps all the time. These symptoms started about 2months ago, i thought it was because of my oversupply and overactive let down but have since gotten good control over that and the symptoms have only severely worsened in that time

We’ve not done to much in ways of managing it yet, and honestly i have no idea where to start. I practice attachment parenting, she wears a hazelwood necklace, she is rarely ever on her back, except when shes asleep but usually shes propped up. However tonight im going to put her on her belly to see if that helps some. I’ve cut everything that has milk in it out of my diet but its only been a week so i need to wait at least another 3-5weeks before i see any improvement from that. Dr prescribed her 0.3ml of Zantac, but i’ve been hearing its not really that effective. I’ve been hearing maalox is better to help her while we’re waiting for the milk to flush out.

I’m very nervous about starting her on meds. From what i understand a exclusively breastfed baby whose family practices AP is the least likely to be affected by this :/ I hate the idea of medicating her but i also hate her screaming in pain. I have worked so hard to maintain her virgin gut and i feel like giving her meds will ruin all the hard work :/

She is scheduled to have a GI consult in Childrens Boston on the 20th. Hoping to get more answers there but happened upon this site and thought i could look here in the meantime.

So what do you think ladies? (sorry its so long)

ETA: Shes 4mo 10lb10oz do you guys know how much maalox and how often i shoud give it, if i should at all. And have you ever heard of using apple cider vinegar to help?

hi & welcome! I have a LOT to say…most of it will be given to you in the form of links!

I’m fairly AP…however, we HAD TO medicate our son.

believe me, I was leary!! I tried chiropractor and a QUACK (don’t EVER go to ‘bodytalk!!!!’)

I did the Dr Sears Elimination Diet.

When all was said & done, my baby needed meds, at HIGH doses, to not be in pain.

YOU are the mama & you must advocate for your baby. You’ve found a fabulous place to research and, from your research, YOU will decide what you will do/not do for your baby…

I would say try some mylanta cherry supreme- not maalox. the key is no aluminum.

Mylanta Cherry Supreme is the one variety of mylanta that does not contain aluminum.you can’t find it anymore, but you can find store brand equivalents. Try rite-aid, cvs brand, walmart, target, Bartell Drug (West coast), Dollar General, brand names: Geri-Care & Geri-Lanta Supreme, meijer, etc- just look for one that does not list aluminum in the ingredients. you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off.

zantac is ok to start with! you gotta start somewhere…

Reasons a breastfeeding mother might think her baby is reacting to something in her milk:

*poop that is not ‘normal’ mustardy yellow, seedy breastfed baby poop

*mucous in poop; mucous can look like: snot, jelly, cottage cheese, stringy like the inside of a banana

*foul-smelling poop

*stinky, foul-smelling painful gas

*straining and grunting to poop and, when baby finally does poop, it’s soft

the TED takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CAN eat.

Research all you can! You are your baby’s best advocate!

Wowzers thats alot of info!! Already i’ve found this site so extremely helpful!!! Thank you soo much. I just read through it quickly and will have to go back through it and jump through all the links. I’ll start the TED right away, sounds more promising then just eliminating milk products.
