neocate users

Those who use neocate….how many of you have been able to get it covered by insurance and WHO wrote the letter of medical necessity (or script)? Your ped? Allergist? GI? And why/how did you get them to agree that Neocate was what you needed vs/ nutramigen/alimentum?

Haden is on Neocate. My insurance is Great West and they covered it. My GI wrote the letter of medical necessity and faxed it directly to my insurance company. I never actually saw the letter, so I’m sorry I can’t specifically tell you what exactly it said. It did take about a week to finally get a name/fax number of exactly who approves these formulas. I now pay a $10.00 co-pay and receive 4 cans at once. Make sure your GI writes the script for how much Neocate your child is drinking. My GI wrote it for 40oz a day. (He’s not drinking that much but it leaves “room” for his growth/increase intake).

If you run in to trouble, let me know and I’ll request a copy of the letter for you and that way I can specifically tell you what it says.

Good Luck! I feel very lucky to have it covered, from what I’ve read alot of times they do not cover it.

Matthew was put on Neocate by his GI, because of refusal to eat…. he was being treated with a high dose of PPI but still really bad reflux and they thought the next step would be Neocate.

THe GI wrote the letter…good luck with insurance!
