Hi everyone. I need to change my siggy. I thought Madden was baselined but the past 2 days his poos have become increasingly more mucousy. He started w/ BF poos that were stretchy, but now it’s turning into mucous w/poo in it. I’ve been on TED since 10/30 and I can’t imagine what else I can possibly omit from my diet. The only thing I did different was on Thanksgiving, I cooked my potatoes in free range chicken stock and had a tiny slice of organic cranberry sauce (this was going to be my next low allergen fruit anyways). Could it be that 8-10 days later we are having a reaction, or is it more likely that he is reacting to one of the 8 things I am eating. His reflux has been horrible, but we are on day10 of Prevacid so the reflux is definitely improving. Also, I have a case of Neocate, which I was going to use in Jan. when I go back to work anyways, and this kid WILL NOT drink it. I tried 5 parts BM, one part Neocate and he screamed in protest until I would nurse him. I’m trying to get him used to the bottle with just BM, but does anyone have any tips for weaning to the bottle and/or weaning to Neocate. I’m anxious to get this little guy’s gut healed and worried that he won’t drink Neocate by the time I get back to work. I am thrilled that he is a VERY happy baby when he’s not in pain. He sometimes stops in the middle of crying b/c he’ll catch my eye and giggle at me!!! I want to enjoy his happiness while I’m still on maternity leave, KWIM?!

What did you eat a lot of in the past few days. Fwiw, Evan was intolerant to turkey, pears & rice (all in TED) so it’s certainly possible Madden is reacting to something. Evan is an extreme case but just wanted to say it unfortunately IS possible.
But, what form of Prevacid is he on? Also, did he have vaccines recently? (I noticed he’s almost 2 mths old). These could be other reasons for mucousy stools.
As far as weaning… right now (since you’re doing 5 parts BM to 1 part Neocate) I would say he’s protesting the bottle, not the Neocate… ESPECIALLY if you’re trying to give it to him (vs. someone else who doesn’t smell like your boobs/breastmilk-lol). So, I would work on getting him to take the bottle 1st, then worry about the Neocate.
Hang in there!

I suspect that it is the rice though b/c Evie never was able to take rice and I had to give her oatmeal for solid cereal. Here’s an update-Madden drank 1 1/2 oz. of a BM/Neocate mix. I think it’s just going to take time. Esp. since he is a MAJOR comfort nurser and I feel totally guilty not letting him nurse when I know that’s just what he wants. Thanks for the advice!
