I took my son to the ped GI on tuesday of last week and he kept him on the prevacid solutabs 7.5mg twice a day and he changed his formula to Elecare. He said that he has a milk soy protein allergy and thats why he has the dermatitis and is spitting up. We have been feeding him the Elecare but today he was super fussy crying most of the day, still spitting up and his rash was flared up. I dont know what to do anymore ! Could it be that he really doesnt have a msp allergy?? I also took him to a ped dermatologist and she said that he has atopic dematitis and that its not due to a msp allergy. I dont know what to believe! I have also been giving him maloxx because I dont know what else to do. I feel like the prevacid is not working. I need some advice! I dont know what to do and I just want my baby to be happy.
November 21, 2011 at 7:54 am #69418hellbenntKeymasterif baby isn’t tqaking the elecare, then make the switch slowly- add the elecare to existing formula-
EVERY change takes two weeks so give the elecare (at full strength, whenever you ‘get’ there) a GOOD two weeks! you can do it!you can always revisit formula issue in a month or two or three!solutabs must be given on empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. if you feel baby needs more, I’m not a medical professional, but many parents have given their babies OTC meds…in general, I’d wait until elecare was in system a good two weeks…you can always give zantac, too, just make sure to space it 4hrs from the prevacid. if you don’t still have an rx for it, you can get otc pepcid chewables & dissolve 1/2 a tablet w/ some water & give that- again, just make sure to space it 4hrs from the prevacidhang in there!November 21, 2011 at 5:26 pm #69422AnonymousInactiveI second what Laura said about the formula! Transition slowly to help ease your LO into the switch. For example you could start off with 1 oz EleCare to 3 oz of your old formula…and slowly increase until you’re 100% EleCare. How old is your LO?
Hope he starts feeling better soon!!November 21, 2011 at 11:07 pm #69425AnonymousInactiveOne other thing to add… Solutabs have a small amount of lactose in them. It shouldnt be enough to bother a MSPI baby but have read enough stories on the boards about babies that could not tolerate them to believe there is a connection. I would have your script changed to Zegerid powder packs.
November 22, 2011 at 11:06 pm #69438AnonymousInactiveThank you ! My LO is 4 months old soon to be 5 months. So far he has done well on Elecare. He drinks it with no problem. We have been giving him the prevacid and waiting the 30 mins. I think that has made the med more effective. I have also started to give him some baby food. I have given him squash and he seems to like it. I guess the more solid food helps with the spit up. He seems to be happier. He has been less fussy since I started the baby food on monday. Lets see how it goes. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for the advice and support.

Reflux is painful, causing infants to cry constantly, refuse to eat, spit up frequently, and sleep poorly. The daily routine of giving medication, dealing with the constant vomiting and special feedings, and the frequent doctor visits can be exhausting. Making sure that you and your physician work together to treat the reflux using whatever methods are best suited for your child will help. If GER is left untreated, long-term complications such as feeding disorders, inadequate weight gain, narrowing of the esophagus, and damage to the tissue in the esophagus (called Barrett’s syndrome) can develop.
